great hard drive
3 May 2011
Summary: I got this hard drive to install on my new computer build a few months ago. So far, this drive has worked out great. I dont have much to say, the drive works as expected and I have had no issues with it. I always buy western digital hard drives, and I have always had good experiences with them.
Summary: I have had only one hard drive fail on me during the 20 years in computers, so either I do not use them to industry standard or I am just a putter on the green. Also, being an extreme gamer that I am not, the Black Cavair is excellent for fast access to stuff on the drive.
Summary: This disk is a great performer, and did well in my benchmark tests. Unfortunately, it makes lots of noise when seeking. This is very annoying for desktop applications in quiet environments. I had to return it.
Summary: I installed two of these in RAID 0 and am thinking about buying another to up my speed. If you are looking for a drive that is ideal for RAID setups, this is for you. Two caviar blacks in raid 0 are as fast as an ozc vertex II 60gb but is 1.2tb and around the same price.
Summary: As soon as I installed this Black Sata Hard Drive, it was clicking and clunking up a storm. Apparently the factory setting for the Black Drives is destructively fast and you have to change the settings on the boot menue to adjust the speed for less noise.
No mechanical HDDs can take advantages of SATA III even II
31 October 2010
Summary: SATA III is meant for SSD, current mechanical HDDs barely take advantages of SATA I which is 1.5GB/s or 150MB/sec, let alone SATA III or even II. So advertise SATA III 6Gb/s for a mechanical HDD is like a selling a Toyota Collola with racing tires, pointless.
Wish WD would come out with a 500 GB model of this Black drive
L. Ray "L. Ray", Amazon
15 October 2010
Summary: This 640 GB is better for me than the larger 1TB model but wish WD would come out with a smaller 500 GB model or even smaller. I don't know anybody who can use even a 500 GB model as their main primary drive!! There's a lot of wasted space that will never be used.
