WD has not improved!
RICHARD C., Newegg
9 August 2014
Summary: They don't last. They die fast. Get Seagate or Samsung.
Cons: I never had any luck with WD products. They never lasted, and always had short life spans. I thought all that changed, and WD improved over the years. Boy was I wrong! I purchased this Velocraptor on 11/09/2012 from Newegg for the speed and the long 5 year warranty. This hard drive took a dump wi...
Summary: I bought 2 of these back in October of 2011 and they never really seemed to have the performance they were supposed to. Well one finally failed and when I contacted Western Digital, I was told they are not real WD drive but a counterfeit. I sure hope Amazon stands behind their products..
Pros: Fast drive while it worked. It was used in a web server that served basic content files over an intranet.
Cons: After 3 months, Event Viewer was flooded with drive errors claiming bad sectors. Thankfully, we added a new drive and moved the data, 2 days later it died. Replacing it with another WD product but hopefully the 1TD red edition will have better reliability. I would not trust this hard drive with a...
Cons: After my 5yo HDD had crashed I got it as a replacement. Old HP desktop with old BIOS complained about the faulty drive before the BIOS showed up. I was unable to run chkdisk, it failed. Under linux disk check was no errors that confused me a lot.. On another linux desktop it was shown as faulty d...
Summary: After over 20 years and 10's of thousands of dollars on equipment, excellent treatment. New supplier is very imminent. Thanks a lot.
Pros: Absolutely none
Cons: Unit arrived in cellophane, broke seal to inspect and ALL sata & power connectors were broken. Never mounted in a system. Returned for exchange (RMA). The reply was user error and returned broken unit. Great service.
Summary: Purchased and recieved installed nicely, only a couple of problems on the 6 installs I did. Windows Ultimate 64 bit. The problem was once all files were installed and it was up and runing within a day it would corrupt the startup files and then everything would have to be reinstallled, Gave up after...
Pros: I have the 300GB HD and been running great last 4 years. Wish to increase my capacity with a new 600GB.
Cons: I received the HD with the data connection pin broken off. I found the plastic that covers the copper connections in the shipping bag. RMA to Newegg and denied stating I broke it off. Strange, the connector only goes on one way. Thanks for not helping Newegg
Summary: I have used WD for a years now and never went up to VelociRaptor. It appears to run very loud compared to any other hard drive I have every used or experienced. It makes the buzzing kind of noise an old computer usually makes when trying to read or write data.
Pros: Seems to be faster than the other hard drvies I have used from WD.
