Summary: Replaced failed hard drive. Replacement went well. I used recovery discs to re-install windows and it all went very smoothly. The new hard drive is performing well so far. I've only had it for 1.5 months.
Summary: Was looking for a second hard drive to backup my files to. Needed to get something compatible with Windows 7 and that was reliable. This fit the bill beautifully. Installation was a breeze. It's quiet and working flawlessly. Happy.
Summary: Installed easily and I used WD's supplied Acronis software first to see how well it worked for cloning my boot dive (worked fine) then for cloning my failing secondary drive (D:). Also worked fine and was simple to use. The drive has been running without errors for about 3 weeks. I do notice some slowdown during POST. This is the first time I have had a SATA hard drive in my system. Previously, I had only a SATA DVD drive.
Summary: I am using this for my XP PROFESSIONAL system drive. When I purchased it the WARRANTY INFORMATION was for 5 years but when I registered it with WESTERN DIGITAL they noted that the warranty was for 3 years. It really makes NO difference as I would have bought it anyway. When using this with XP you have to install SPECIAL ADVANCED FORMAT SOFTWARE. This BLACK SERIES is WDs MOST RELIABLE!
Summary: This unit is DOA but this is the first DOA WD Black I've ever gotten. I'm in IT and have used WD for at least 15 years. I had to deduct a star for the DOA but this is so rare I hate to mention it. Don't hesitate on WD Black.
Summary: I recently purchased this hard drive to build a new computer. Build came out great, does everything I could want. However this drive is failing already, making very loud clicking noises that are common with failing disk drives and I've discovered my drive is OUT of limited warranty, where as this title clearly states it is sold under warranty. Checked my serial # on the Western Digital website, and it's out of warranty.
Summary: When it comes to desktop HDDs, I've gone back and forth through many manufacturers. At one point, I swore by Seagate and their Barracuda line. However, that was many years ago. And while this is no Velociraptor or SSD, this HDD in my opinion is far better in the long run. Western Digital has solidified their Black line with this product and the 1TB HDD version.
