WD over the other brands
20 May 2013
Summary: I have many HDDs throughout the years, IBM, WD, Maxtor, Seagate, Hitachi, Toshiba. Generally of all the brands and models I have owned over the years, I have only had issues with Seagate. That is the only one I will definitely avoid currently. I know it is a small sample and may not be of much use compared to a large organization but to my data and use, it is of signification importance.
Summary: Four of five ordered new perform okay after several months, one could not be formatted. The 8mb cache makes them distinctly slower than the 16mb cache they replaced, if speed is a consideration.
Summary: Installed in my laptop Vostro 3300(dell). My first 4k sector alignment HD, not a bad indeed.
Pros: Half a Terabyte, I can run Win7 plus 3 other of my favorite linux distros and still have ample room for storage. 4k sector manual partition went without a hitch. No noticeable speed loss compared to the WD Scorpio Black HD. Runs a tad cooler than Scorpio. Very economically priced.
Summary: Arrived on time, in its packaging, and my PS3 accepted it perfectly. So for all of you who zipped to this product after reading the PS3 harddrive replacement instructions, this is what you are looking for. Update: This hard drive is still working perfectly and I bought it over two years ago.
Summary: I ordered this disk and I was horrified when I seen when the postman had just dropped it through the post box as it just came in one of Amazons cardboard packaging for books. Not one mention of a fragile package or anything!! Thankfully it seems to be working fine...
Summary: Great for anyone wanting a bigger drive for the ps3 super slim. Ultra quiet and easy to install. The ps3 presents an option to copy across data the moment it's turned on, making it even easier. Games are reasonably quick to install as well. My only complaint is that you only get 465mb of storage space on the ps3, some of it due to the ps3 and some of it due to the way hard drive sizes are calculated, so you never get the full size advertised.
Summary: ... but everything went well so far. bought to replace a faulty hard drive WD500BPVT from a Samsung laptop which has just gone out of warranty, "sod's law"! performance is as described, quite pleased! hope this lasts long though!
Summary: I've no complaints with this hard drive it's got decent performance, quiet with little to no notable vibration. Ideal as a replacement drive and the price is quite reasonable. However on testing the Hitachi 7K1000 2.5" 7200rpm drive edges it out for pure speed (this ia a 5400rpm drive) The Hitachi has a bigger 32mb buffer and faster spindle speed yet still very quiet.
