  • Summary: just get it.
  • Pros: It works and it's at a good price. Great for a little extra storage room. Never had any problems with it.
  • Cons: A little slow for an OS drive, which is what I had it for originally. Huge difference when you upgrade to an SSD.

Gotta love em

Kevin N., Newegg
14 March 2013
  • Summary: After about 6 months, this drive began to show signs of trouble. Occasionally, it would not be recognized on start-up. I had to reseat the SATA cable to get it back. 10 days before my warranty expired a though occurred to me, this thing is still under warranty!
  • Pros: This drive seems to be perfectly capable in performance, it's quiet and works as I would expect a drive to.
  • Cons: None

Cool & Quiet.

Jose T., Newegg
25 April 2012
  • Summary: I'm kinda paranoid when it comes to new HDDs. I always run surface tests on new ones before installing an OS. (Hitachi DFT for example). Used this in a HTPC & I'm amazed at how quiet & cool it stays. I still have a fan cooling it anyway.
  • Pros: -Extremely quiet. Almost inaudible. Most case fans are louder.
  • Cons: -WD isn't clear on the RPMS but I think its only 5400-5900.

WD 500GB Green

Brock R., Newegg
25 April 2012
  • Summary: I build, work, rebuild and customize computer daily. I have in the past month used 16 different HD's by different brands and the first WD green I get failed out of the box. The other WD's I have used, only 1 has not given me problems...that 4 out of 5 WD's with problems. Not good odds. I love WD's...I have had them last for 5-7 years, but this month has been very bad for my trust in WD.
  • Pros: Green, Less power, 32MB of Cache and SATA 6.0Gb/s
  • Cons: Put in a brand new build for a Go-Green PC and when I started the computer I hear...Click...Click...Click

  • Summary: This was not the first storage unit in my rig. Once I finally figured out how to assign a drive letter to the hdd, it popped right up in My Computer and everything's been dreamy. Love the price, the feel, and the SILENCE. WD wins.
  • Pros: Price, simplicity.
  • Cons: None
