Worst drives I've ever bought

A. Smith, Amazon
25 December 2010
  • Summary: I initially bought one of these for a quiet PC. Because it was quiet and I never had problems with my WD 80GB Caviar I bought another. Big mistake. The first one died after a few months. The second one died a month later.

Failed!

David J. Atkinson "David", Amazon
5 December 2010
  • Summary: I have to agree with the first reviewer - this is the worst drive I have had in terms of reliability. It failed after only a few months of operation. Luckily, it was part of a mirrored RAID set and the other drive is still functioning perfectly. Recommend you avoid this drive.

This drive sucks. I am so surprised

Jered M. Stoehr "Jered S.", Amazon
16 November 2010
  • Summary: I read these reviews and my jaw dropped; I couldn't believe people were having the same problem with this drive. I was so happy when I picked it up; a top name drive for under $100 500gig SATA, not even a month later it crashed. Not worth the deal, I see the price has gone down since I bought it...

Won't work with Alesis HD24

DJG, Amazon
22 January 2010
  • Summary: For some reason the "Caviar Blue" series of WD drives will not work with the Alesis HD24 HD recorder (you will get a HD reset error when attempting to mount the drive). I believe this is the only flavor of Western Digital drive that doesn't work in the HD24--the other "Caviar" series drives work...

  • Excerpt: Very good price, western digital is typically a really dependable brand. Lasted much less than a year. Don't purchase this unique WD drive. Because I bought I see that there are a lot of critiques displaying up with experiences similar to mine.

Sirius, pricebat.ca
17 August 2013
  • Excerpt: Price is affordable. WD is straightforward to RMA. Smart errors after 528 hours of use. Only 122 power on cycles. Poor sectors. Tested with Spinrite ahead of putting in service. I have bought 3 of these drives. two for a RAID system but I needed one particular for a buddies failed drive.

  • Excerpt: Newegg processed and delivered the drive promptly. The drive would not pass western digital information lifeguard rapid test. Test failed on three unique pcs. Windows would only recognize drive if plugged in by way of external cable, i.e. sata to usb external drive cable.

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKB 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive

Kenny, pricebat.ca

  • Excerpt: Cheap. Doesn't get additional than 1-2MB/sec of study throughput on my IDE controller (though two other WD drives get 50MB+). Only gets ㅑMB/sec when attached to a different controller. This drive is garbage. I wouldn't get one more.
