Work as advertised

  • Excerpt: I've read about these drives and I believe the bugs have been worked out. I bought 4 of them to put in my new Synology and they seem to be working great. Low temperatures and fast enough transfer speed considering the use is a NAS. I like that they are designed and balanced for a NAS. Good price on the 4TB version.
  • Pros: Easy To Set Up, Easy to use, High Capacity

Solid choice for NAS

  • Excerpt: Photographers no longer buy film, they buy hard drives. I've been using WD as my preferred drive for over 4 years, with over 50 deployed in that time. WD drives are consistently rated as quality drives in studies like the one Blackblaze has done. Their longevity numbers line up with my experience. All drives die, and even some new drives die. That's why you need a good RAID for fault tolerant storage.

  • Summary: Not much to say, capacity is great and silent operation, I have these and a pair of 3tb models running in nas boxes 24/7 and feel confident in them, speed is what it should be for this class of drive, just wishing they would go 6tb.
  • Pros: Large capacity, silent operation, WD NAS quality
  • Cons: Aren't 6gb lol

  • Summary: very wary of large capacity drives. i've had several 3tb drives fail on me after less than a year so i'm hoping this one will last a bit longer. so far it seems to be alright but only time will tell.
  • Pros: 4tb. enough said
  • Cons: still a bit too costly

Poor packaging - DOA

Cris, dabs.com

  • Summary: I'd like to echo the previous review. I ordered two of these and they arrived each in the standard anti static bag inside a thin cardboard wrap, both were delivered inside one of those grey plastic parcel bag things. No bubble wrap at all. One was a DOA and I'm really surprised both weren't dead considering they way they were shipped. I will be keeping a close eye on the second drive from this order.
