Dead on arrival. Recertified, not new.

Frank Rich, Amazon
20 February 2014
  • Summary: Tried it in two laptops, just to be sure. Weird sounds from the drive, not detected by bios. Then, upon closer inspection of the sticker attached to the drive, noted the drive is "Re-certified." Nowhere in the product description did it say it was going to be a re-certified (ie used) drive.

Negative Stars

Molly E Noyes, Amazon
28 November 2013
  • Summary: I wish there was an option to select negative stars. The product description stated that I would receive a new - never used hard drive. However, this was not the case. It was discovered that after I installed the hard drive, that it was a refurbished hard drive and I learned a lot about the previous...

Why Buy?

PC -., Newegg
30 September 2013
  • Summary: A failed hard drive that is out of warranty after ONLY 90 days is just too big a risk to take to save $10.
  • Pros: Inexpensive.
  • Cons: 90 day warranty? If it is fully reconditioned and recertified by the manufacturer they should warranty the drive for at LEAST 1 year.

Unreliable drives

Craig B., Newegg
28 July 2013
  • Summary: It will take a long time before I trust a WD product again, based on my experiences with them. At least the data is usually recoverable when they start acting up.
  • Pros: Cheap.
  • Cons: We have had more drive failures of WD 'blue label' drives than any other model or brand at my work, typically within 1 year. I work in a large IT department, and most of our new Dell laptops came with this model. The worst manufacturing period seems to have been 5/2011 through 7/2011. It got so b...

Failed

Jerod T., Newegg
21 May 2013
  • Summary: Don't sell junk. Seems like a higher failure rate on these drives - pull them and send them back to WD and refuse to sell junk to your customers!
  • Pros: None - DOA out of the box. Fast shipping. Nice customer service, free return shipping.
  • Cons: DOA out of the box.

Failed Drive

Didier A., Newegg
7 May 2013
  • Pros: Shipping was quick.
  • Cons: Did not work, drive would spin up and shut down after 15 seconds. Took a chance despite the warnings in reviews. Obviously a defective design problem with this model, Western Digital is otherwise a reputable company but think they should reimburse for return shipping when a pattern of failure has...

Garbage

Andrzej L., Newegg
1 May 2013
  • Summary: wish I has Deskstars. Those were the best drives ever
  • Pros: Cheap
  • Cons: Cheap. I've purchased 3 in a week and 2 have failed on me. both bad sectors. I froze up entirely. It won't even spin up. The other keeps rebooting and chkdsk has to repair every time until the OS is completely unstable.

D.O.A

Ink-It-Up E., Newegg
16 April 2013
  • Pros: I always like to have a drive on standby and persons my come to me from time to time to fix laptops so I bought this drive. The day came when I needed to use it and it was dead dead dead. Just my luck.
  • Cons: I will give WD drives a beak. These companies have a time when they produce bad products.
