Summary: I actually just left a review for an external hard drive I bought in January '11 from Western Digital noting the good experience I've had with the brand. I had forgotten that this hard drive was also a Western Digital. I purchased this in September 2009 after the original hard drive in my Mac unexpectedly died and as of today, it's still going strong.
Summary: This is a Scorpio Black 320GB (298GB formatted). The model number is WD3200BEKT, not WD3200KRTL. I knew this when I bought it. Knowing this, I saved 20% over buying the actual WD3200BEKT bare drive product. This is basically a bare OEM drive. It comes in the WD3200KRTL box, with an antistatic bag, but has absolutely nothing with it. No screws. No cables. Nothing. Don't think it that just because it comes in the retail box, that it'll come with retail accessories.
Fast reliable drive w/ 5 year warranty Great upgrade for mac
15 August 2010
Summary: This drive is fast (7200 RPM), has a 16 mb cache, and comes with a 5 year warranty. It has Shock Guard protection (but not free-fall sensor). Do the comparisons. How many other brands come close to matching that? For $69 it is a deal. Since Macbooks are already built with "sudden motion sensor" this model may be the better choice.
Summary: I installed this drive in my 2 ghz mac mini. The drive was very easy to install, and runs very cool and quiet during its 16 hour a day operation. I didn't use the stock drive for too long, but it does seem to have a slight increase in performance, and performs better than i would expect for a laptop hard drive. No complaints, no regrets.
