Cheap

Ken M., Newegg
17 July 2013
  • Summary: Don't buy. Go with a drive and company that supports their products. Spend the money, it's worth it.
  • Pros: Good drive for the price point if you don't mind the 5400 RPM.
  • Cons: Failed just after a few months, BIOS won't detect it, out of the blue from minor use. WD won't honor their warranty.

good budget drive

Steven F., Newegg
10 May 2013
  • Pros: Picke up at a great price, used as a secondary drive until the primary failed and this one was moved in its place, decent amount of storage. Incredibly quiet, you really cant hear this thing.
  • Cons: Slow! I know you sacrifice speed for quiet operation and power consumption but this drive really does take the crown for taking its time on read and writes

Unreliable

Patrick P., Newegg
25 March 2013
  • Pros: Seemed like a good deal at the time
  • Cons: Failed. I used this drive less than ten times as a storage drive for large files and it has barely been used and already had the click of death. Very disappointed. Unfortunately for me WD is getting a worse and worse view in my eyes, as my only drives to ever fail have all been WD. All others hav...

quiet

Sergei S., Newegg
28 January 2013
  • Summary: Some other reviewers said this hard drive is much slower than the competitors. I don't know, may be that's true that the rotation speed never riches 7200RPM as on other drives because of the IntelliPower, who knows, but the tests I did shows the same performance as any other modern drive I deal with...
  • Pros: Good fast quiet drive

Not for gaming

Jonathon D., Newegg
10 January 2013
  • Pros: This is a good storage drive but is not a good secondary drive to access games from. Read rates are reasonable but for a cheaper drive is not bad. At least I can use this drive for file storage but not as the secondary as intended.
  • Cons: I have an SSD and was using this to store games on because the read rate does not need to be as high as a solid state. If you are thinking about using this drive in this configuration I would not recommend it. Games run ok but when a new texture needs to be loaded the game will freeze for about 1...

Works as advertised

James S., Newegg
9 January 2013
  • Summary: I have had good luck with WD so I stick with them. Others have not had such good luck.
  • Pros: Fast. Cheap. Easy installation.
  • Cons: Slower (surprise) but still 5x cheaper than equivalent SSD. Hard disks fail often. This hasn't yet.

Great HDD

Robert K., Newegg
6 January 2013
  • Pros: Super easy to install
  • Cons: BIOS saw Drive but win 7 disk would not boot with out Boot file or previously installed OS to read Disk. OEM drive so I had to use Win XP Disk and format drive and install the basic Win XP OS. It would then read Win 7 disk and boot..

Bad Experience with this drive

Scott H., Newegg
16 November 2012
  • Pros: Cheap Price
  • Cons: Poor quality. I ordered 3 of these. The first was DOA out of the box. The second lasted about 1 month before total failure. The third has not been used yet as I do not trust them.
