Summary: I bought this drive to transplant the circuit board and heads to an identical drive that had died. When I removed the circuit board, it was obvious that some of the chips had overheated as the foam rubber under the board had brown scorch marks. I was under the impression that these drives were new.
Summary: Possibly the worst gamble I have made. Only the second (out of many) WD drives I have seen fail. If this was a 'new' drive, the file system was set up and file organization in keeping with a DVD. The only thought that it might have been 'new' is there was no personal or 'cable company' information.
