Summary: Because PATA is obsolete, I believe any drive you will find with the interface will be refurbished. I have two aluminum Vantec USB 2.0 HDD enclosures for PATA HDDs. I am not ready to get rid of these enclosures just yet. Since I am storing backups of backups, they might last awhile
Summary: Western Digital is my preference when it comes to Hard Drives. This Hard Drive performs well. Of course my newer computers have SATA Drives which are quieter and seem to be faster. If you are in the market for a PATA Hard Dive, I recommend this one.
Summary: Had so bad sectors after 3-4 months of use. It was keeping the pc from starting correctly. I had to use a 3rd party software program too scan and repair the drive. It took 4 hours but the drive boots now.
Summary: As Microsoft Windows XP approaches its End-of-Life, I wanted to upgrade all of the hardware to the best available before I retire my computer to the back room. This is just what I needed. Works well.
Summary: Bought it to replace a dead hard drive in an almost 10 year old SA8300HD PVR. Old drive was 160GB, so I've doubled my recording capacity. Install was easy and drive was recognized and set up by PVR after a few reboots.
Pros: I/O is nice and quiet compared to a dead Maxtor drive in a SA8300HD PVR.
Cons: Fan is quite noticeable from a few feet away.
