wd 2500hhtz

thomas d., Newegg
20 November 2015
  • Summary: Wish WD would address this bios problem. Years ago, you could flash hdd bios with the first dos floppy, but it doesn't work anymore. A software program or a back up bios would greatly improve an otherwise great drive... from a dependability point of view.
  • Pros: This drive is about as fast as any ssd in a practical sense. It is also WAY more dependable than an ssd, and cheaper. I had two computers with ssd's, and ended up removing them both. These drives are "enterprise" level with a huge mtbf. Look it up for yourself.
  • Cons: Only problem with hdd's, is the bios. I lost 5 drives playing with raid configurations with different raid cards. They became "clickers". All were wd's (of course). Actually for light use, raid didn't help with speed of the machines.

Fast HDD

Joel H., Newegg
9 April 2015
  • Summary: Next PC I build will have a fast SSD 256-512GB system drive and 1-4TB HDD for other data.
  • Pros: Love this 10K rpm drive, it has been flawless. It is used as a baseline for SSD drives. I was not ready for SSDs then, maybe now.
  • Cons: none.

Western Digital WD VelociRaptor WD2500HHTZ 250GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Anonymous, Newegg
23 November 2014
  • Summary: I have been a fan of IBM/Hitachi HDD’s since 2000ish tried Seagate’s and after 2005ish Seagate’s have been horrible in reliability, my old IDE/SATA IBM/Hitachi’s still work awesome ( I am very abusive to HDD’s), but need faster HDDs, so I tried one of these 250gig HDD’s and have yet to look back.
  • Pros: Very good HDD so far I have 4 and plan to purchase more, despite comments on how loud this are they do make a VERY faint clicking noise when active, but so far quiet and run about 5-10+c cooler (under load) then my Seagate’s and about 5c+/- cooler then my pre-WD Hitachi HDD’s
  • Cons: Not at all a WD fan, in fact it took years to trust another WD HDD drive. All prior WD HDD’s failed within a year or so and the ones that have yet to fail make noises that you need ear plugs for (no joking) I don’t even use them for anything important due to they can fail at any moment.

Very nice

Jordan J., Newegg
7 November 2014
  • Summary: ~2 Years of High school comptia training ~4 years of self-taught hardware nerdism (cold cathodes to custom cooling) ~1.5 years of Restaurant IT work
  • Pros: Super fast when in RAID 0. I have a SSD boot drive and use 2 of these for installing programs and games. They have been running about 8-14hrs a day sense 10/16/2012 without issues using the on board controller on my ASRock Z77 Extreme4 MB.
  • Cons: storage space. this is my own fault so i didnt knock off an egg. I went from having 2x 1T HD black in raid 0 to 2 of these in raid 0... going from ~2T storage to ~500GB feels... cramped.. its to the point where im installing games on my backup drive... I require more storage..
