failed in less than 2 months

Anonymous, Newegg
22 October 2008
  • Pros: Quiet when it was working
  • Cons: I used this as my external backup, and starting having problems a week after I bought it. Ran WD Lifeguard Diagnostics and the program crashed and an error message came up saying "Too Many Bad Sectors" so that was the end of that.

Very LOUD

Peter K., Newegg
13 February 2008
  • Summary: LOUD, I will be returning this drive back. Don't believe what people write in these review. I mainly bought this HD only b/c reviewer claim to be quiet, but not true.
  • Pros: No problem installing on Macbook. seems to be working fine, but I would never buy a loud HD and this one is REALLY loud. Did I get a faulty one?
  • Cons: I had read some of the reviews that it run very quite, but not mine, it's one of loudest drive I had so far. Never thought such small thing make loud noise. I' don't understand, my WD passport is extremely quiet, maybe I just got the abd copy :(

Stefan G., Newegg
29 November 2007
  • Summary: I'm still not sure that this is actually a real hardware problem, or a problem with the SMART firmware in the drive. WD customer service is not really set up to answer questions it seems... Regardless, not a good thing to have happen.
  • Pros: large capacity; WD RMA process works in principle
  • Cons: (macbook): first drive showed SMART spin-up failure after about 300 hours. No answer from WD to my inquiry. When this error reappeared after a few weeks, I started the RMA process. Replacement drive showed same failure also after about 300 hours. 3rd drive has performed w/o SMART error for 40 hou...
