  • Summary: First unit went bad within minutes of formatting and installing WIN7. Replacement dud no better. I gave up, I don't thing these returns are worth 20 cents, let along what I paid for it. Don't waste your time

Dead on arrival

  • Summary: I was really excited to recieve my hard drive, but unfortunately it was broken before I could try to configure it. I sent it back at no cost and recieve all my money(thanks Amazon). Maybe I was the lucky one but I won't order something that delicate online again.

failed in less than 2 months

  • Pros: Quiet when it was working
  • Cons: I used this as my external backup, and starting having problems a week after I bought it. Ran WD Lifeguard Diagnostics and the program crashed and an error message came up saying "Too Many Bad Sectors" so that was the end of that.

  • Cons: I installed Leopard on it, ran the updates, within an hour I had to restart to see a blinking folder with an "?" on it. Then DU wouldnt even recognize and it kept making clicking noises.

Very LOUD

  • Summary: LOUD, I will be returning this drive back. Don't believe what people write in these review. I mainly bought this HD only b/c reviewer claim to be quiet, but not true.
  • Pros: No problem installing on Macbook. seems to be working fine, but I would never buy a loud HD and this one is REALLY loud. Did I get a faulty one?
  • Cons: I had read some of the reviews that it run very quite, but not mine, it's one of loudest drive I had so far. Never thought such small thing make loud noise. I' don't understand, my WD passport is extremely quiet, maybe I just got the abd copy :(

on 2nd replacement drive due to spin-up SMART failure in MacBook

  • Summary: I'm still not sure that this is actually a real hardware problem, or a problem with the SMART firmware in the drive. WD customer service is not really set up to answer questions it seems... Regardless, not a good thing to have happen.
  • Pros: large capacity; WD RMA process works in principle
  • Cons: (macbook): first drive showed SMART spin-up failure after about 300 hours. No answer from WD to my inquiry. When this error reappeared after a few weeks, I started the RMA process.
