Many other choices - I don't recommend this drive

Summary: I purchased this drive from Amazon. It lasted a little over a year, then died. Since I had been using Western Digital drives exclusively since I started building computers in the late 1990s, I assumed that this was a fluke, and I purchased and installed another one, same model as the one that died.
Summary: I bought this one in 2008. In less of two years it stopped! At first everything was OK, but before a year of use, my computer said "the disk is very damaged and recommended change it", in that times, bug reports indicated that in Palimpset (disk tool of Ubuntu 9.10) had a bug reading S.M.A.R.T.
Summary: I used this drive as an external backup inside a Star Tech USB enclosure. After backing up files, installing UBUNTU (just in case my main drive failed I could boot this one up and have access to my files) and after spending a long time organizing those files, I set it aside.
Summary: This Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB Hard Drive is bad hard drive to buy. The first HD i bought lasted for 1 year and the second hard drive same model lasted only 3 months then started crashing(eg. blue screen telling me so) and slowing down alot.
Summary: I cannot rate this drive, I bought to use as an external HD for my laptop. The system won't recognize the drive. I called the WD help desk and was informed that they don't support using it as an external drive. If you intend to use this as an external drive...don't.
