Failed after 3 weeks of use. Blah.
R. Hiers, Amazon
8 November 2013
Summary: I bought this unit and didn't get around to installing it for a couple of weeks. About 3 weeks after installing, the drive started clicking. I ran the WD diagnostic tools and they determined the drive had indeed failed. I contacted the seller, but was told that because the hard drive had been purchased over 30 days prior, it was no longer eligible for replacement. So, I went to WD and returned it through them.
Summary: The hard drive worked 11 days, file a physical failure, so that is irreparable. I feel cheated, I have other discs of the same brand that have several years running smoothly. I recommend this article to anyone because the research I found that this model has this manufacturing defect that makes its life is very short.
Item sold by Amazon as new was not actually new!!!

Summary: The hard drive purchased was supposed to be new according the listing as new. However, the electrostatic bag the hard drive ships in had been opened and the descant removed. Clearly not new. The item works, but now question the manufactures warranty and the reliability of the used drive. Amazon, you should be ashamed!
Summary: Out of my 4 drive RAID, I have had two fail. The RAID is kept cool and never exposed to to anything bad. The HDD's failed on month from another, so was able to get the data back, but having to sent it back ($6 ground shipping) is not acceptable. 2 of the four failed... the product is poor and i suspect I will be left holding the bag at the end of the two year warranty. Do no buy, my S company drives have run flawless and WD's just don't hold up.
Ordered 3 drives. 2 of them failed within 3 months.

Summary: Enough said. 2 drives out of three failed within 3 months. One of the drives replaced by WD, another to be replaced by Amazon. 3rd one is still up and running... All drives have been used in Synology NAS.
Summary: I've been happy with Western Digital drives for many years, but this is the first time I've had a drive arrive close to DOA. I purchased this drive for use in by backups using Acronis True Image. The day I received the drive I plugged it in and it worked fine. Booted up to Windows 7 and formatted the drive. I did a full system backup and everything still seemed OK. The next day I restarted my computer and the computer would not boot past the BIOS screen.
Summary: I have bought 2 of these drives last week and they were intended for a backup solution using a Synology DS411 NAS Drive, working in parallel. The drives were delivered promptly (last Friday). The packaging was good . BUT as i decided to continue with the installation today (Monday), one of the drives was showing a S.M.A.R.T. failure! This is not acceptable! The drive is hardly a few days old and I should have listened to the warnings of the previous reviewers!
Summary: I bought 2 of these drives from Amazon in June 2012 and BOTH had failed by September! I have bought dozens of drives in my time and I have had drives fail before, but not this quickly and not 2 at a time. Looking online I find that I'm not the only one that this has happened to. They were being used purely as storage, my OS is on an SSD. Look elsewhere for your internal HDDs, you have been warned.
