I'm disappointed in Western Digital

Dominick A., Newegg
18 September 2013
  • Summary: I see this one is discontinued now. I've never gotten a bad product from WD before, so I hope their warranty process is easy to go through and that they're honest.
  • Pros: Works great while it's working, comes with a 5 year warranty. I used it exclusively as a back up so I'm not losing any vital data.
  • Cons: Failed in less than a year, currently has at least 8 bad sectors.

2 June 2013
  • Pros: I have allways belived in the re series drives. their enterprise class and have high reliability or have had in the past
  • Cons: i have had 4 out of 24 dead witin 3 months... they drives were in a raid 60 with 38tb of space and 3 of the drives failed as soon as it was turned off on one side of the raid 6 thus all data lost.... We had to send the drive in for recovery in order to get anything off the drives, according to th...

What Warranty?

Gene H., Newegg
24 January 2013
  • Summary: I have gone through two completely new drives with Newegg and neither will register properly with Western Digital for the 5-year warranty. Both serial numbers come back as OEM drives only to be sold to system manufacturers.
  • Pros: It's a reliable, affordable RAID-level drive.
  • Cons: This is NOT a consumer allocated drive, WD will not let you register it for warranty purposes.

Terrible Quality

David H., Newegg
7 November 2012
  • Pros: When they work, they perform as advertised.
  • Cons: I had 2 of these drives running 24x7 in a Digital Video Recorder for 2 years, and I have had 2 failures. The first failure (bad blocks, lost data) was replaced under warranty by Western Digital, but they sent me a Green drive instead. I contacted them and they promptly corrected the mistake. But ...

Read my letter to WD and make your own mind.

Boris K., Newegg
3 December 2010
  • Summary: What I wrote to WD: Please explain to me how RMA'd HD with almost intact five year warranty becomes one with 90 days warranty? Mind you this was brand new HD that went bad within two weeks of purchase that was RMAd with another defective "reconditioned" HD which was DOA and now I am finding out that...
  • Pros: Good drive when it works. Fast access times big cache. Has ability to set TDLR tables as this is "RE" Raid Edition and supposedly enterprise grade HD.
  • Cons: Four brand new HD went bad within two weeks after install into server. I replaced them via the WD advanced RMA. Out of the four replacements one was bad and I had to RMA again. Out of curiosity I looked at the warranty expiration on WD website and to my shock I found out that WD switches the orig...
