Product is exactly as described but it is important to ...

Douglas Baker, Amazon
22 August 2014
  • Summary: Product is exactly as described but it is important to note that these drives are discontinued. While still under warranty, the warranty starts at manufacture date not sale date, so they only have a couple years left on them off the original 5 year warranty

Do NOT BUY!!!

J Li, Amazon
8 August 2014
  • Summary: Well, if you think you are buying cheap WD RE4 HDD, you are wrong, just like me. The model # is MB2000EAZNL. When I googled it, it's HP HDD, not WD. This doesn't bother me at all. What really bothers me is the power on time is 22,784 hours (31 months 19 days 8 hours). I thought I was buying a new HDD, but I guess the seller is playing us.

2010 'new' hard drive

Aristotle, Amazon
30 June 2014
  • Summary: Another old/new drive. These drives were made in 2010!!!. I'm hoping that despite that, it will work for near it's warranty period, which when new, was 5 years. I have no warranty, other then Servertechs' alleged 3 year warranty. That is only over the phone, and is not stated on the invoice. Only a 30 day warranty is stated on the invoice, and a claim that retail products are covered by the manufacturers warranty.

Great HD

S. Ward "MacXpert", Amazon
20 June 2014
  • Summary: While the true test of an HD is how I feel about it 5 years from now, in the mean time all I can say is: I wish I had bought more at this price.

Steve Hartman, Amazon
3 June 2014
  • Summary: So far this hard drive has run great and even survived a short in my server. The customer service from this company was great when I ordered the hard drive. This is a really solid hard drive for your server needs.

enterprise edition drive, premium price, advertised 5 yr warranty, 1 yr actual warranty w. manufacturer, DIED within 8 months

C D, Amazon
31 May 2014
  • Summary: Bought this new in July 2013; by April 2014 it would not access data. In February 2014, it began by throwing strange errors in windows. Windows 7 would not boot at all or it took longer than 5 minutes to boot - previous boot times were about 30 seconds. We tested the mainboard, replaced the RAM, removed all other non-critical components and the machine would still not boot.

We have had no problems...

Terrel Pochert, Amazon
29 May 2014
  • Summary: We use the "Black" drives throughout our systems including inside our Thecus servers and as second drives on our desktop PCs with no serious problems. In five years, they just keep going. We still always don't trust any hard drive.... always keep backups.

Warranty Issues

R. Fernandes, Amazon
13 May 2014
  • Summary: This review is not for the drives. I have 18 WD drives. They are great. But I recently purchased 5 drives here at AMAZON and upon registering them with WD find that they are not under warranty for various reasons. These drives should come with a 5 year warranty. Just following up to add that WD informs me that the drives I purchased were manufactured in 2010. They only accomodate 1 year of the 4 years of shelf.

RE4 are about the best platter drives available

Tech Taster "tt", Amazon
20 December 2013
  • Summary: This drive is fast, and performance-wise has everything you’re likely to want. But the really impressive part is the amount of work WD has done to ensure reliability both in standalone operation and also in RAID. These are now tried and tested drives in the market, and the results of WD’s work are clear to see, so you know you can depend on them with your data.
