2010 'new' hard drive
Summary: Another old/new drive. These drives were made in 2010!!!. I'm hoping that despite that, it will work for near it's warranty period, which when new, was 5 years. I have no warranty, other then Servertechs' alleged 3 year warranty. That is only over the phone, and is not stated on the invoice. Only a 30 day warranty is stated on the invoice, and a claim that retail products are covered by the manufacturers warranty.
Summary: So far this hard drive has run great and even survived a short in my server. The customer service from this company was great when I ordered the hard drive. This is a really solid hard drive for your server needs.
enterprise edition drive, premium price, advertised 5 yr warranty, 1 yr actual warranty w. manufacturer, DIED within 8 months

Summary: Bought this new in July 2013; by April 2014 it would not access data. In February 2014, it began by throwing strange errors in windows. Windows 7 would not boot at all or it took longer than 5 minutes to boot - previous boot times were about 30 seconds. We tested the mainboard, replaced the RAM, removed all other non-critical components and the machine would still not boot.
Summary: We use the "Black" drives throughout our systems including inside our Thecus servers and as second drives on our desktop PCs with no serious problems. In five years, they just keep going. We still always don't trust any hard drive.... always keep backups.
Summary: This review is not for the drives. I have 18 WD drives. They are great. But I recently purchased 5 drives here at AMAZON and upon registering them with WD find that they are not under warranty for various reasons. These drives should come with a 5 year warranty. Just following up to add that WD informs me that the drives I purchased were manufactured in 2010. They only accomodate 1 year of the 4 years of shelf.
Extremely reliable and great price/reliability ratio. The only 7200RPM class drives I purchase, period.

Summary: The reliability of these drives are second to none. I have over 20 of these installed in my servers in a datacenter cabinet and they all run great on my Dell PERC6/i. I move lots of data all day long serving up webpages to clients, and cloud hosting applications. So for the price/reliability ratio you're getting with these drives, I can't find a better product.
Summary: On startup the SMART report stated 1800+ power on hours with 22 power cycles. This is *not* a new drive despite the headline. The firmware is also a revision behind what my other used drives from EBay state. Overall the drive is satisfactory despite the deceptive headline. Verify the SMART data on receipt!
