Unacceptable Failure Rate

Karl Burrows, Amazon
30 November 2012
  • Summary: **Update 2/10/2011** Another RMA for all three drives. I just spent 2 weeks rebuilding my RAID, restoring and re-backing up my data after the drives corrupted all my data. This is the 4th set of drives for me. They are upgrading them to the 2003 version that has the set 72000RPM speed to eliminate the issue with drive timing issues.

Do Not Like

Meijer Goldstein, Amazon
27 September 2012
  • Summary: Drive repeatedly flashes the activity light and goes CLUNK a few times and repeats this pattern after a min or so. I Sent the drive back and got another similar one. The same thing happened and it was a different serial so it wasn't the identical drive. USB Cable was changed as was the box. Did some research on web and found that others having the same problem. This is a 2012 drive so the firmware should be up to date.

ALEXANDER, TigerDirect.com

  • Summary: yes they are faster but not a good value, at 400$, 3 drives in the array failed already in the past year, need to keep replacing them constantly. Lot of cost for nothing.

Western Digital 2 TB RE4-GP SATA 64MB Cache Bulk/OEM Enterprise Hard Drive WD2002FYPS

Anil Sadasivan, Amazon
25 September 2010
  • Summary: I ordered this item and paid for the second day shipping. Amazon promptly sent this item and I received it on the 2nd day. I was so upset to see the condition it arrived. First of all it came without any additional packaging at all. It came in with the original manufacturer's package. Moreover, there was no sealing tape to close the box and anyone could just take out the content.
