Summary: The WD2001FASS Western Digital Caviar Black 2.0. TB has let me down. Ive had drives fail before but i never lost this much data. Scary to think that so many others are having issues with this drive based on a QUICK SEARCH. Chkdsk failed, after formatting, chkdsk passed the drive. Didnt last long.
Summary: I'm highly ticked off with this drive. I was so excited to get this drive, but that didn't last very long. I had some VERY IMPORTANT information on this. I haven't been this disappointed in my life! 1.2TB of information lost. Dead in only 10 DAYS? I'm glad I at least a quarter of the stuff on it backed up.
Summary: Its not often that I take the time to write a review on a product, but I had to do it for this drive. I have been in the IT field for over 20 years and though I have seen it all. I purchased 3 of the 2TB Black drives in the last month. One here on Amazon and the rest, somewhere else. Out of the 3, 1 was DOA, 2nd died in 3 hours and the last, had so many bad sectors that WD's own software ran for 13 hours and it finally gave up and errored out.
Summary: I have read of others that have had hard drives fail and yet in many cases I still see an average or better rating for the drive. I just don't get that. In my case, this drive started giving S.M.A.R.T. errors about a week ago which Windows recovery with chkdsk /f seemed to overcome and which allowed me the opportunity to back everything up (that's a good thing) and run normally until the next time I needed to reboot. Then the system would just hang.
Summary: I am not one to write bad reviews, but for the $170+ Price Tag this Drive lacks elegance and silence. I have never heard such a loud hard drive. The Bottome Line, Getting another Samsung Spinpoint 1TB HD (HD103UJ)since the other I have has never been this loud and has worked for MANY years. I read from other reviews that this drive fails after a few weeks and it does not support basic RAID features, also the Warranty is sketchy at best.
Summary: i use this hd as my c drive ad it work great buy it fail so quickly and of curse i lose all my data,i just install windows in my old but reliable wd velociraptor 300gb i will wait for the price of the new velociraptor 600gb slow down.
Summary: The drive mounted ok and the read/write was acceptable but OMG the thing sounded like a pack of mice were inside gnawing metal. There was such a huge grinding of metal on metal I'm sure it's defective. It's going back.
Summary: I bought this drive for extra storage. I've installed many drives with no problems so it never occurred to me to worry about the quality of Western Digital's tech support. The drive works, but only under the right conditions. After trying everything I could think of, including flashing the motherboard and controller BIOS, installing the latest drivers etc, I contacted WD tech support.
