Easy install on 2009 MacBook / 5 star drive, 0 star packaging - UPDATE

Luis A. Sanchez, Amazon
15 January 2011
  • Summary: This whopping huge 1TB drive installed so easily on my 2009 2.26GHZ Macbook I was ashamed at myself for not upgrading sooner. The 13in white polycarbonate macbook comes with a paltry 250GB drive that was quickly filled with family photo's, music and other files thus necessitating some type of upgrade. I was going to go with the 500GB Scorpio black 7200 rpm drive but ultimately decided to sacrifice speed for double the space.

Macbook Pro (Early 2008) install

Pseudenomdeplume "***", Amazon
21 October 2010
  • Summary: Package arrived on time. Drive was in sealed static-proof bag, ends fitted in plastic forms which suspended it snugly inside heavy cardboard box, which snugly fit inside Amazon box filled with air pillows. No problems with packaging. Installed, the drive is a tight fit height-wise, mostly due to sensors which Apple has mounted on top of the drive. Without those sensors, the fit would be perfect.

Over sized (Height)

English_Wolf, Amazon
13 October 2010
  • Summary: Do not purchase this drive if you have a standard 2.5 drive and want to upgrade your laptop. It is not the standard 2.5 height. Otherwise it works flawlessly... If anyone finds (or knows about)an USB casing that will fit the drive, I'll be happy to purchase it.

The best capicity available at this time, 5 times slower than mainstream disk when used as a backup media

Oved, Amazon
24 April 2010
  • Summary: I bought this disk to be used as a backup media. It is installed in a server with 2.5" disk bays, and other servers are being backed up to this disk. The capacity is the highest available at this time for 2.5" disks. The performance of the disk are poor (when used as backup media), compared to an ordinary inexpensive notebook disk. It took, using this disk, 5 times longer to complete a backup. For example backing up 140GB to this disk took 13 hours.

So far so good

Babak Abai "BA", Amazon
15 March 2010
  • Summary: I bought this item for my 17 inch macbook pro (not the unibody but with the silver keys). I had my fears about it fitting. Once I got the product, I proceded to install it. A further concern was that there were extra power supply pins on the side of the hard drive that were not there in the 250gb hitachi hard drive that I took out. The install went smoothly. I turned the computer on and proceded to re-install the software that I really needed back on the drive.

Check the height !

CA, Amazon
6 August 2011
  • Summary: Be aware that this is a 3 platter disk which is 12.5mm high. It therefore won't fit into 90% of laptops which are designed for 9.5mm drives (though in some cases with some shaving off of foam or leaving out caddies you will get it in. HOWEVER WD and Toshiba have recently launched 9.5mm 1TB drives (with 2 rather than 3 platters), which WILL fit into standard laptops.

Heart transplant

Prof A. R. Forrest, Amazon
8 April 2011
  • Summary: Installed in my MacBook without difficulty. The instructions on the Apple website are explicit. You will need to clone your hard disk to it before you start the swap. The only real hassle was that Office 2011 demanded to be registered anew. Sigh.

1T 2.5 for Macbook Pro late 2008

bebitoes, Amazon
6 April 2011
  • Summary: Installs easy and gives a lot of extra capacity. I do not notice a lot of speed difference with my 7200 rpm disk, so I'm happy
