I have received my hard drives

mike c, Amazon
18 February 2014
  • Summary: I ordered these hard drives to fit into a slim desk top case that I use as a Jukebox were I keep all my music, and audio books. Because of the limited room in the case I can not get more than two of the standard hard drives in place so I purchased 3.5" brackets that will allow 2.5" hard drive to...

Spacious but slow

Arvind M., Newegg
4 October 2012
  • Summary: If you're looking for a lot of space for cheap without high performance go for this drive. If you want performance and lots of space, consider using this drive alongside an SSD. I've done this with my Macbook Pro and am pleased with the performance boost from the SSD while having tons of space from...
  • Pros: Great value for money in terms of storage space. I have 4 operating systems on my laptop (since I write code for MacOS Lion and Snowleopard, Linux and Windows).... Couldn't have this many operating systems without a drive this large. I can carry my entire music and photo library on it despite hav...
  • Cons: Very slow - sometimes excruciatingly so. The speed hits during disk thrashing forced me to swap my DVD drive for an SSD (Corsair 240GB). This upgrade to an SSD has solved my need for speed while also allowing me to have the large amount of space provided by this mechanical drive.

Drive OK overall

MANH H., Newegg
8 September 2012
  • Pros: A lot of space for a 2.5" hard disk. Even if it is refurbished, works OK. Price reasonable.
  • Cons: Only 6 months of warranty if you check with Western Digital. Drive will not fit in most of 2.5" enclosures due to its thickness.

Great device. Extremely tiny

Hilary N., Newegg
24 August 2012
  • Summary: It's extremely tiny. I mean it's smaller than I expected. Not sure if it's a good or a bad thing. I'm ordering a second one cause I have old hot wheel cars I want to put flash drives into and this is the perfect one. I don't even have to break it open. I can pop it inside the car as is.
  • Pros: It's extremely portable. Nothing wrong didn't come DOA.
  • Cons: None so far.

Great Drive, Warranty Unknown

Benjamin C., Newegg
2 August 2012
  • Summary: Refurb'ed and it look like new. Ran WD Diagnostics and it passed everything. Great value.
  • Pros: Quiet large 1TB, not much you can ask for. Great for backups.
  • Cons: Two different warranty lengths stated on the Newegg page, 2yr and then 90 day on the "Detail" page. Upon looking up the serial at WD I have 60 days left on my warranty.

User Review

Torsten H., Newegg
17 May 2012
  • Summary: Like many people here I missed the fact that the drive is 12.5mm tall. It was supposed to replace a 500GB drive I used to use for backups and file transfer in an external enclosure, but the WD10TPVT did not fit.
  • Pros: + Lots of space + Quiet + Cool
  • Cons: - Taller than most laptop drives - Average transfer speed

Good Enough Drive

Maxwell H., Newegg
10 May 2012
  • Summary: If this drive came with a ssd cache partition or some other feature I could forgive the huge size but honeslty, it's a bit ridiculous that there are not huge disclaimers about this.
  • Pros: This drive performs quickly and is about on par in performance with other laptop drives I have had in the past, but honestly who buys a 1TB drive expecting stellar performance. Pair this with a solid state and you have yourself a pretty impressive storage solution. Massive size, both in data and ...
  • Cons: This drive is big. Like really big. I had to take an aluminum plate out of my laptop case to allow it to fit. It is at least 50% higher than an average 2.5" drive. Now that the plate is out, i'm not sure what it's purpose is. Perhaps to sheild expresscard slot devices from any forces on the hard ...

Harddrive to hold all my data

Christopher G., Newegg
26 August 2011
  • Summary: For the price, I thought it was worthwhile, I have a lot of information on my laptop and I needed this 1TB to give it enough space.
  • Pros: -Gigantic HDD space -Great price when I got it
  • Cons: -Bigger than your average harddrive, I had a problem fitting it into my laptop, but I finally got it in, doubt it'll ever come out though -5400rpm speed is a little slower than the 7200s, but it still works

24 May 2011
  • Summary: Make sure this drive will fit in whatever it is you plan on putting it in. The drive is thicker than what you might be used to.
  • Pros: Large capacity
  • Cons: Does not fit in my laptop.
