Summary: The WD Blacks have superseded this raptor technology, this is probably why these raptors are getting to be so cheap these days. First I thought the cache buffer of 16mb was to blame, and the 640 AALS had 32mb so I figured it was that.
Pros: I like the design, the way it looks, cute small drive inside.
Cons: This is NOT a fast drive. Yeah, it's recert, but it has nothing to do with it, it runs fine. But it is not fast. WD640gb black AALS run faster than this. Let me explain: when you benchmark these drives, the actual read speeds of the velociraptor appears slightly higher (not much), but in real lif...
Summary: After I sent the replacement back for, well, another replacement, it arrived from Western Digital mounted backwards on its IcePack mounting frame which prevented me from being able to connect SATA cables.
Pros: Pretty fast performance drive, especially in a RAID setup.
Cons: I ordered a pair of these a while back and they worked great, until one started failing with constant read/write errors and freezes. After I RMA'd the problem drive, its replacement failed about 4 months later.
