Conclusion: For most of our “Final Thoughts” pages, coming up with a conclusion of sorts isn’t difficult. But it is with the VR 1TB. The reason is that while the drive is in a class of its own, and it the fastest mechanical drive ever produced, it’s not for everyone. It’s for those who demand the fastest mechanical storage possible, and need ample space. It’s quite that simple.
Summary: Unfortunately I didn't read the entire ad. I had intended to purchase the new SATA III 6gbs drive. The ad for this one said 6gbs in the title but further down in the description it said it was a 3gbs SATA II drive. My own fault for not reading thoroughly. I notified J&R of the ad error. As for the drive itself it's still faster than th Seagate 7200.11 250gb HD it replaced. But not by enough that I would have bought this HD.
Pros: Easy To Install, Highly Compatible, Reliable
Conclusion: In the end, there is no doubt we have a new king of the hill. It may not win every single benchmark, but it certainly wins the majority and without a doubt scores convincing wins in areas that consumers are keen to notice. With a capacity of 600GB, this drive is finally a real option for those that do not care for multiple drives in their system. To me, this is the formula that had been missing all along in the VelociRaptor lineup.
Summary: I bought two of these. The first was an oem which performed as described- FAST. So I ordered a retail box. My heart stopped when I pulled it out of the standard FedEx pack and saw the[...]packaging. I almost sent it back without opening it- sure that the toy inside couldn't be the same serious piece of equipment I had bought oem. Amazingly it was, and after config into raid 0 even dog Vista wuns like a wabbit! Partitioned the raid and put XP64 on half- better than OK!
Pros: Easy To Install, Fast, Highly Compatible, Quiet, Reliable
Summary: This drive is easy to install, quiet, and cool. Windows seems to boot faster. I've had the drive a few weeks and have had zero problems. B&H had the cheapest price for the retail package, the same price for an oem drive at other retailers.
