Summary: I bought this drive in January 2013. It has worked flawlessly as a backup drive for me over the past 15 months or so. Suddenly today it started clicking and beeping at me. Tried to reseat it in it's enclosure and tried it on different computers. Same result. I opened an RMA with Western Digital.
Pros: Good price for a 1TB drive. Worked great out of the box. 2 Year warranty
Summary: i was skeptical purchasing this based on the not so great reviews i saw, but the pc store i got it from did not have many others. under a load when converting a cd the hdd stopped working. my old one was put in and boots fine.
Pros: 1 TB size, easy install. worked fast and was satisfied when it worked.
Cons: used the original HDD in my macbook pro for at least a few years for much longer than this WD HDD lasted me.
Summary: Purchased 8 of them to test in a HP Proliant DL380 G6 server from another supplier. Of the 8, there were three different product numbers ending in -00, -22 and -75. All of the -75 drives indicated an Overheat condition with the 410i controller.
Pros: Of the four drives that did work, they seem to run just fine. Nice and cool, quiet and with decent performance. Not super fast but they do have nice storage capacity for their physical size.
Cons: Not all drives are the same; when you received them, go register them and find out if they are still under warranty. The last two digits of the product code may vary from drive to drive. Take a close look and let us all know what variant of a WD10JPVT you have. Four of the eight drives I purchase...
Summary: Many users will rate this review not helpful because they installed this drive as a primary drive or have an application running that reads regularly from the drive so it never spins down. In this situation, you will never notice the cons that I and many other users experience during gaming.
Pros: Works fine for storage or as a primary drive. Cons become noticeable when used as a secondary drive
Cons: The previous reviewer "Matos" explained the cons accurately and clearly. This drive causes serious micro stuttering when used as a secondary drive for gaming. The drive spins down and the the read/write head parks too fast during idle periods when the game is not actively reading data from the dr...
Summary: So I never have had to need to clone a disk or partition before, til now I had a 500GB segate that i needed to clone to my new 1TB WD. I wasnt aware of this new AF that all HD's are going to. All worked well windows 7 saw the HD and formated right away no problems there.
Pros: Its quiet, and stays cool, lots of place for storage, reasonable priced.
Cons: so I had a WD 9.5mm 1TB laptop HD fail we sent it to them... with a new egg invoice... the model they have sent to us is a 12 mm thick - "WD10TPVT" essentially it doesn't fit into laptops it's pretty much a stright crime they are doing we send them one more expensive device - for laptops they sen...
Summary: I installed 4 of these into a supermicro server for a RAID. They all park their heads every few seconds, causing small delays of 2 to 4 seconds whenever you do *anything* after more than a few seconds of idle time.
Pros: High Capacity, One of the fastest 2.5" drives, especially for the price.
Cons: Heads are parking every 3 to 8 seconds in Linux 2.6.18-308.4.1.el5.
