Summary: Love product. Fitted, formatted and reinstalled software and laptop working great. The extra space, spindle speed boosts performance. Plus, nice and quiet!. Three months on, no problems. To Note. Product did not arrive in a WD box?
Summary: Not being a computer cognescenti Not sure whether my report will be much use? but it is working well now.The drive was recommended by a knowledgable friend who did say it would affect the battery life as it replaced a 650gb failed Toshiba which has form for its' fallibility. So far so good, lightening fast compared to the unit it replaced.
Summary: Bought this to replace my smaller hard disk which was getting full and as a result storage was becoming a serious issue and the computer operation was getting very sluggish. Like Very quiet when running and has improved the speed of my computer appreciably due to the 7200rpm. Dislikes Free WD Acronis clone disk software would not recognise this drive as Western Digital Drive and refused to load.
Summary: I fitted this into my Macbook Pro mid 2008 model. The previous HDD had about 1gb left and everything was pretty much needed. So I thought it would be time to upgrade. Easy to fit, no problems at all. The Mac boots up SO much faster now, and everything runs very smoothly, but considering the speed of the drive is 7200RPM the drive spins much faster, causing the mac to be rather noisy.
Excerpt: When my macbook started to play up towards the end of last year I did what all sensible people do and ignored the problems in the hope they would fix themselves. This worked for a while, but eventually I had to bite the bullet and take it to the Apple store to find out what was wrong. It turned out my hard drive was basically caput and living on borrowed time. Rather than pay Apple's prices for repair and replacement I decided to attempt to sort it out myself.
Summary: Very pleased with this drive so far. Used it to upgrade the 160gb hitachi 5400 rpm that came with my mid 2009 macbook. Fixed all my storage issues and boot up and file coping speed has noticeably improved. Have on occasions notices it being noisy, but I don't perceive it being any worse or better than the original. It does seem to use a noticeable amount of extra juice. In fact one time i caught it actually running down the battery while plugged in.
Summary: I have a 13" mid-2010 MacBook pro. Replaced the original Hitachi 250gb disk with this Scorpion Black 750gb disk. Sped things up dramatically, turning on went from 2.05 to 40s, but my old hard disk was pretty much full. Applications open instantly now too, it really makes a difference. Actual capacity is closer to 700gb, but this is to be expected.
Summary: Installed this in my Macbook Pro (13" mid 2010 model) after my old hitachi drive failed. Works fine running OSX Lion. Everything loads very fast, though I don't feel it's much faster than my old 5400rpm drive, and it's definitely more noisy. You can't feel much vibration - no more than you would with a slower disk. It does make a noticeable amount of noise when the laptop is placed on a hard surface like a desk, but it isn't distracting or annoying.
