Summary: Got this drive after finding the 5400 RPM drive in my Acer V3-551G-X419 terribly slow, especially while gaming. Put this drive in, installed Windows 8.1 Pro Preview, and now gaming is awesome :)
Pros: Fast (in-comparison to the 5400 RPM WD Blue drive I had), and arrived to me in working condition.
Summary: first time replacing an old drive with a new one in a loptop. bit of a learning curve. but definitely as easy as it seems. just format and run a mirroring program. I used EaseUS Todo and it worked perfectly.
Pros: Have owned this drive for a few days now. Installed in an HP laptop from 2008. Got it to replace the original 300GB HDD in the laptop. It has been great so far. I formatted and mirrored the old drive to this new one using the Vantec NexStar USB enclosure which also worked perfectly well( and now houses the 300GB drive). So far so good. I will re-evaluate the drive if anything happens within the next few months, but it feels good to get that old drive out of my machine...
Cons: None so far. As I said, i will definitely let you know if something happens to this new drive within the next few months.
Summary: This Western Digital is great for a laptop replacement or upgrade. 500gb, full 7,200 RPM, reliable, cheap and power efficient.. You can't ask for much more. You will notice a difference in your laptop's performance if you have a slower drive, and you won't lose battery life either. Its not one of those new hybrid drives, with a large flash cache, or an ssd. However, with the 7200rpm speed, it still competes with the hybrids.
Summary: I just installed this Western Digital hard drive to replace a failing drive. It's a great product, and Western Digital also offered a proprietary version of Acronis for performing hard drive clones and advanced backup functions. I highly recommend this product.
Pros: This HD is WD's black drive. The only drives I buy are black from WD. I have yet to have a problem with any of them and i have a few WD drives. But I do change the drives out from a main unit to a storage after they get a number years of use on them. They are very reliable, that is important to me. I replaced the old drive in my laptop and installed Windows 7 in place of vista, all went well, the drive is humming a long just fine. 5 year WARRANTY.
Cons: Not free, they do cost a bit more, but it's better than having to rebuild your system after a crash.
Summary: Good hard drive. Registered product on WD website and 5 year warranty seems valid even on an OEM hard drive. Be sure to write down the serial number prior to installation as it is required for registration.
