First drive was defective
JEAN L., Newegg
31 October 2013
Pros: It is so much faster than my old 5400 toshiba drive System boots a lot faster. It's a lot more responsive The drive is cheap 60$ not bad bad. Newegg was so awesome replacing the drive quickly and with no catch. I asked for a UPS code sent it back and it was home the week after. Really pleased! Th...
Cons: First drive was defective the drive me a chirping sound but this is not neweggs fault. Is it WD's fault? I don't know maybe it got damaged while shipping.
Summary: It was shipped like a door stop in between two toners, covered with a piece of packing paper. I said covered, not wrapped in paper like normal, as to hide the terrible job of shipping. That being said I am testing it as I type.
Pros: Price, 7200 RPM.
Cons: Will it last?? Running manufacturers HD tools to determine if there is any damage before I use it. I did not rate it based on my service, not fair to WD.
Summary: My wife's mid-2009 Macbook Pro laptop had been feeling sluggish, even though its original 500 GB drive was a 7200 RPM model. Checking System Preferences > Serial-ATA showed that the factory drive was only connecting at a negotiated link speed of 1.5 Gigabits, half the potential 3 gbps.
Summary: Just installed 2 days ago. Replaced my 3-year old Samsung 5400rpm 250GB that came with my Sony laptop. In general it works fine. There is no obvious speed advantage over the old one, but the noise level is definitively higher. The noise is not a problem for day time use.
Summary: I should have bought 2 for the discounted price.
Pros: This is a standard 7200 rpm drive that I bought as a reconditioned item at a great price. I have been working this thing to death from a docking station. It has been running for many hours and runs cool and quiet. It is fast and easy to work with as long as you don't have an issue with a bare dri...
Summary: I was worried that the drive would really heat up my system but it doesn't seem to put out very much heat at all. It does eat up a lot more battery than the SSD did but that's expected. I'm pretty satisfied with it so far.
Pros: So far, this is a good drive. It runs decently cool and is pretty fast.
Cons: The drive seems really loud compared to the mechanical drive I'm used to hearing which was an old 4200 RPM Hitachi drive. I have a new computer that's very quiet. In fact, I pulled a 1st gen SSD out of it just to put this in so I could have enough storage for work. When the SSD was in the system,...
Summary: There is an "align" tool available from Western Digital if you register your product. It allows you to align xp format so it fits properly on the disc. No where could I find if you're supposed use it before or after you install xp.
Pros: Fast, good price.
Cons: Nowhere on this site does it mention its advanced format. With advanced format, this thing works best on Vista or later. I tried to use windows xp because its an old laptop with only a gig of ram. xp could not format the disc and said it may me damaged. I filled out an RMA, however I think ill ke...
Pros: I got it for $ 65 two days ago. I installed in my hp dv6000 laptop today. I use the HD Tune 2.55 test the wd5000bpkt. It is 44 degrees. wow, it's hot. and the drive's average transfer rate is 56.3MB/sec. Minimum 32MB/sec, MAX 63.8MB/sec. Access time is 17.3 ms. My old drive's average transfer rat...
Cons: First, I don't know why it is 44 degree. many ppl say it's around 32 degree. Second, average transfer rate is a little lower than I expected.
