Summary: I bought Brand New for good price ( 100 approx. ) and it was BRAND NEW ! I was expecting a Refurb possibly . Has worked great for over 6 months !! SATA III ( 3 ) is better than this and is the direction a new computer should go but I still have SATA II ( 2 ) and it will work
Summary: I am no longer a fan of the home and portable blue Western Digital drives, too many failures. But the Black Enterprise and Scorpio lines have treated me quite well for longevity and reliability. I can not speak to the gamer performance benchmarks though, because the aforementioned qualities are the most important features for my use, but they are certainly as fast as the middle of the pack.
Summary: Purchased for a Windows Home Server. Love Western Digital Black and RE drives. I have never had one fail on me. These drives are meant to run 24/7. Standard desktop drives are designed to run an average of 8 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you use a standard drive in a system that is running 24 hours a day, expect a premature failure. If your system has critical data or runs more than 16 hours a day, you should consider an enterprise level drive.
Summary: Purchased 3 of these for a new RAID enclosure and they have worked flawlessly for the last 12 months. No issues whatsoever. I'm looking to purchase one additional drive to have as a hot backup because, well, we all know these things don't last forever and a little extra redundancy doesn't hurt.
Summary: The drive is fast for a mechanical drive. I like that it is one of the few with a 5 year warranty left out there and if it makes it for 5 years of hard work it will have done a fine job for sure. I have had good experience with Western Digital drives in the past and trust them.
Summary: with a startech drive docking station, with an esata cable that plugs into the back of a directv dvr. i don't know how big the directv formats this drive but you will have a hard time finding movies because the list will be too long. i have had a hard drive like this on another directv for over 2 years. i think a dock with a fan is the trick to keep this hard drive alive, because it is always 24/7 running.
Summary: I use this model drive as well as a WD RE3 series 1tb drive in a raid 5, 4 disk raid. The initial 3 drives that I received (WD RE3) 1 ended up bad as reported by raid card software. Additionally, raid card log indicated drive timeouts periodically with various drives intermittently. Data integrity remains solid however. Drives are loaded in a drive cage with a 120mm low noise fan blowing on them and these drive all stay cool to the touch.
Pros: Reasonable running temp, not noisy, respectable speeds, great warranty support, reliable long term operation.
Cons: TLER no good for systems with no hardware raid card, price high for 1tb.
