It measures 1.028 x 5.787 x 4.00 inches and weighs 1.66 Pounds. It has an Operating Shock (Read) value of 30G, 2 ms (300G, 2 ms non-operating Shock); a noise level of 29 dBA (average) on idle, 34 dBA (average) on seek mode 0 and 30 dBA (average) on seek mode 3. It has a power requirement of 10.70 Watts (read/write) and 8.2 Watts on idle (1.30 Watts on standby and sleep mode).

Features

The WD RE4 features SATA hard drives which combine 64 MB cache with SATA 3 Gb/s transfer rate and dual stage actuation for optimal performance in server and storage applications. It features a 2 TB capacity with dual actuator technology where a head positioning system with two actuators improves positional accuracy over the data track(s). The primary actuator provides coarse displacement using conventional electromagnetic actuator principles. The secondary actuator uses piezoelectric motion to fine tune the head positioning to a higher degree of accuracy. It also features StableTrac which is a motor shaft that is secured at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking during read and write operations. Other features on the unit include RAFF technology which monitor the drive and correct both linear and rotational vibration in real time; IntelliSeek which calculates optimum seek speeds to lower unnecessary power consumption, noise, and vibration; multi-axis shock sensor which automatically detects the subtlest shock events and compensates to protect the data; RAID-specific, time-limited error recovery (TLER) which prevents drive fallout caused by the extended hard drive error-recovery processes common to desktop drives; third generation dynamic fly height where each read-write head’s fly height is adjusted in real time for optimum reliability and thermal extended burn-in test where each drive is put through extended burn-in testing with thermal cycling to ensure reliable operation. It also features NoTouch ramp load technology where the recording head never touches the disk media ensuring less wear to the recording head and media as well as better drive protection in transit; Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) for more areal density, reliability, and design margin; and Active Power Save that conserves power in active seek modes without degrading performance.
