Green Drives Great For Video Storage
LSR Multimedia, Amazon
11 March 2013
Summary: We use these for our Video Production Storage. They are a good size for a five camera production over one or two days. So far, in five years, these green drives have proved to be reliable for working off of (using HDD docks).
OEM packaging: does not include a manual or SATA cable
Frank Lopez, Amazon
26 December 2012
Summary: The product packaging is a brown cardboard box. It had no manual and it didn't have a SATA cable. And so if you do not have an extra SATA cable then you'll need to buy one. This product should be labeled that is OEM packaging. It does not come in a retail box, and it does not have retail box materials.
Good drive - I've found them much more reliable than Seagate brand
Michael Wheeler, Amazon
27 July 2012
Summary: This drive works well in my 2nd generation Drobo. In general I've had much better luck with Western Digital drives than Seagate. I plan to stay with Western Digital from now on because they last longer.
Summary: I am the sort of person who reviews hardware products and instantly goes for the 1-star reviews to find out what's wrong with it. I did that here before even posting this review, and am astonished by how many people report it failing after 1 year to 1 day. I can say I've had this drive for at least 3 years now, potentially 4, and it has never caused me problems. Never made any noise, never been too hot, never crashed or failed or disconnected.
Summary: I use 2tb Western Digital green drives and decided to upgrade to this 3tb. No issues on install or performance, but Amazon really needs to package these better. Mine came inside the standard plastic "endpiece" box with just a strip of blister wrap next to it. The drive seems fine but it should have been double-boxed. The downside is that because this drive is so big...you'll likely have everything you own on it when it finally crashes.
