Summary: WD drives are very reliable in my experience. I have a dinosaur of a PC running downstairs that has a seven year old HDD from WD as my boot drive, and I still haven't lost a sector or had a general hardware failure. Very impressed with this company's products in general.
Pros: I am using this to store my game collection. There have been no problems with bad sectors or hardware failure. The price on these now makes it even better.
Summary: Had good luck with EVERY other product bought from Newegg so this failure was a bit of a shock.
Pros: Right size for intended use.
Cons: Could not initialize disk. Kept getting data error cyclic redundancy check. Tried jumpering as spec'ed on WD site, continued to get error. Tried on several computers with several different sata controllers. Found several bad reviews scattered across web. Wish I'd found them sooner.
Pros: Once IntelliPower was disabled the drive has given me no issues what's so ever. It has been my primary movie and steam drive for a little over a year now and I really have no complaints. It's not meant to be a 7200rpm Velociraptor drive. The speed is enough for me and the price makes it all the m...
Summary: There isn't a single drive made today that I would store archival information. Having said THAT, if you need a cheap non-performance level drive for an in-machine RAID, this works. Just keep the drives cool.
Pros: This drive is cheap. It generally works. It usually lasts as least through it's warranty period.
Cons: Having said that, this is the only drive I have had that failed while in service. Fortunately it was part of a RAID and the new one I just bought plugged in and synced just fine. This is not a performance drive. 6.0Gb/s is imaginary.
Summary: Ordered 2 of these to use as rotating backups, keeping one off-site at all times. One of 2 was DOA, would not format. Other worked fine. Have always had great success with Western Digital drives, this is the first one I've had that came DOA and the ones that I already have seem to last at least 5-10...
Summary: I've had Hitachi and Seagate drives die on me. This is a first for WD. Too bad QA didn't catch this one before it went out the door.
Pros: Inexpensive drive.
Cons: Received SMART error on initial install. Tried new SATA cables, different ports, etc. just to be sure. Tried ignoring SMART via the BIOS and formatting the drive, didn't work. Ran software diagnostics test for WD drives and it failed.
