Summary: Ok-- bought one of these to build a PC for my kid last Xmas (2012)-- ended up failing right before Xmas (2013)-- was able to retrieve most useful data from it using a external USB adapter on another PC. The good news is that WD's warranty system works good and actually had the replacement for the failed drive to me only a couple days after new one arrived (so now I have a spare). Not the best experience, but WD service was great.
Summary: I used one of this to build a Windows 7 PC and it has been in constant use for almost 6 months now. I must say that it has been more durable than a Seagate hard drive which lasted about 1 month. However, one issue I have with these drives is the booth time varies a lot. My future plan for this drive is to copy my Operating System on a Samsung SSD and use this as a back up drive. Samsung SSDs are in a league of their own.
