Underwhelming

Sage T., Newegg
1 July 2015
  • Summary: For an "average" performance HDD, I find the performance lacking. I wasn't expecting Velociraptor performance, to be sure... but I at least expected it to beat the 5200 rpm Seagate drive I had in my laptop. I'll always buy WD, but I won't be buying Blue drives again.
  • Pros: It Works Price
  • Cons: It's Slow

Failed after two years

Josef A., Newegg
26 March 2015
  • Pros: It was reliable and cost effective
  • Cons: Hard drive received several reallocated sectors and became really sluggish after two years. Purchased in 11/2013. Going to buy another hard drive for the machine.

Good but, ...

Arthur L., Newegg
30 November 2014
  • Pros: Nice drive. I have 5 of them. While I like WD drives, 1 of the 5 died just after the 2 year warranty ran out.
  • Cons: 1 of 5 drives died just after 2 years.

Lasted over 3 years

David W., Newegg
29 November 2014
  • Summary: I bought this in the summer of 2011 to replace a smaller slower SATA drive that I used in an older computer. I was very happy with the price vs. performance of this drive, and never had any negative issues at all until recently.
  • Pros: Worked well for many years. I have had extremely good results from buying WD drives over the past decade.
  • Cons: SMART monitoring revealed early signs of failure a few weeks ago.

You get what you pay for

James S., Newegg
28 September 2014
  • Summary: Seems no matter whom the manufacturer, these drives tend to fail often and rather suddenly. This drive was purchased on 9/17/2012 and not used outside of initial install/test for about 6 months. After replacing another failed seagate it operated until 9/21/2014.
  • Pros: - Good Price at the time on the hard drive. - While the drive lasted, it ran perfectly fine. -Average to slightly above average read/write/access times
  • Cons: -Died exactly 3 days after warranty ended; total time in operating ~1 year 6 months. Daily usage after install. -Reliability

Ok - Till the Warranty Ran Out

Matthew S., Newegg

  • Pros: Ran fine, till 2 months after the warranty ran out.
  • Cons: All WD drives I have ever bought did the same thing. Usually just after the warranty is over.

Needs more cache

Joshua P. Luben, Amazon
5 June 2012
  • Summary: This hard drive performs okay for the occassional user. When compared to drives with 64mb of cache, you can feel the difference. For a cheap replacement, the economics work out fine, but probably not for much longer.

Value Line hard drive .. Don't expect much

Candace Strickler, Amazon
23 May 2012
  • Summary: As a computer repair business owner I have to let customer demand limit my choices in inventory. I have purchasing the blue line for a few years now and have to say that reliability has been a huge issue. I have been buying WD drives since they used to have a 5 year warranty.
