Summary: As soon as I got this, I put it in my new desktop and was sad to see it not work in the slightest. I took it to a local computer store and they informed me that it was a bad drive. I know that most WD products are good, but it's seeming hit-and-miss. I bought a new one from a different source and that works just fine. Just be aware that if you get it through mail, there may be a chance it won't work.
Summary: Product description should say "bulk" -- that is, no cable & no jumpers & no directions. It is NOT retail packaging. Just FYI -- it's not clear from the description. As far as the disk, Western Digital makes great products. And, you can download Acronis software from their web site. As far as I can tell, that software is very good too, although it's not fully functional. The fully functional version is an extra-cost option from Acronis.
Summary: I was impressed with the speedy delivery time, much quicker than expected. The hard drive works great and is very quiet. I've have it mounted in a home built computer with a SATA 3 mother board and the hard drive access time is very fast. I only rated it a 4 star, because after all it's just a hard drive.
Cons: Have been buying drives for 15 years and this is my first DOA drive. Guess these things happen, but you would think that the manufacturer would test a drive to see if it would even spin up before it was shipped. Just made a screeching noise and then a loud click - did that 5 times and then would power off.
