Running Five Years -No Problems!

Summary: I bought this drive about five years ago and forgot to review it! Well, it's still running great -no issues. I do test and scan drives every three months or so, and I backup monthly to a portable drive. So this drive has done very well for five years now. (I'll probably swap it out soon for a larger drive, and use this one for archiving.) I like Western Digital...
Summary: In total I have used 27 Western Digital drives in the past 14 years. Usually I turn them on in the morning and off late at night. I have worked at programming computers in Machine Language and at using, owning and maintaining hard drives since 1968. In my experience with PC hard drives starting in 1984 the Western Digital 320 Gb PATA 3.5 inch Hard drive is the best I have ever used. I have run them on a Promise PCI FastTrak 100TX2 RAID-1 controller since 1999.
Summary: A good hard drive for the cost. As I have experienced with Western Digital Hard Drives, they install easily and are ready to go right out of the box. Has really good access time, and I have yet to have had a "bad" hard drive.
Summary: I purchased 2 for replacement of failing Seagate drives in my desktop. One lasted until around August 2012 and was replaced under warranty (still cost for shipping). The four 500gig HDD in my desktop are actively cooled with a 120mm fan at full speed. I spaced the Western Digital drive so they would not heat each other as much. The drives were not as fast as the troublesome Seagate drives and they run hotter.
