Much better performance than the Seagate Black Armour
3 January 2015
Summary: Has been in operation now for about 1 year. I never shut my system down. This drive is used primarily for network back-up several times per week. Much better performance than the Seagate Black Armour, and reliable.
Summary: This is a great hard drive! It is loud as most of the other reviews state, but I have not had any issues or complaints other than that. Other things to consider is that it does not have the highest I/O rating. Also it does produce a lot of heat so you need to make sure that you have proper ventilation.
Summary: This drive has surpassed my expectations, I've had it for about 4 years now and still works, had some bad blocks in it so I bought a kingston SSD a year ago. The SSD died... the WD is still running...
Summary: I've used WD hard drives for a long time. I've used the RE3, RE4, and the new plain RE lines in my servers. Those drives have firmware that is designed for systems using hardware RAID. But that isn't necessary for lighter duty servers. For light duty servers the Caviar Black line has provided outstanding service in my light-use servers for well for over a decade. These are Linux servers using *software* RAID 1 mirroring.
