Excerpt: This failed 3 days after heavy use of building a RAID and then creating a backup. The 2002 model version (of which I have 4) have had no issues. I did an RMA of this failed drive (2003 model version) and will be receiving the replacement shortly.
Summary: Installed in iMac 27 inch mid 2010 model. This drive is very noisy (clunky). Runs hot in this iMac as the fan kicks up on high after about ten or fifteen minutes and stays there until computer goes to sleep for about 10 minutes. Does seem to function OK though.
Summary: I have two WDs in my new system. They seem to work well, but extremely noisy. There are times during the read write process they sound like they are coming out of the case. They are a lot better than the other popular brand I was using before...so far no HD failures. Crossing fingers due to noise.
Summary: The drive was never heavily used despite being the main drive for this PC. Other than normal day-to-day operations, there was never a time when the drive was really stressed (ie: large amounts of data being put on to or taken off of it in short periods of time, etc.)
Pros: Quick, quiet, and never had any trouble out of it.. until now. (see below)
Cons: I've had this very hard drive since March of 2011, and just the day before yesterday my PC started throwing me BSODs one after another. After some debugging and testing, it's the hard drive. The diagnostic program straight off of Western Digital's website failed on both a quick and extended test,...
Summary: installed and drive ran silent for 2 day now is making a ton of noise, and until it dies WD will do nothing, Heard this noise before i am sure will die soon, Too bad can store stuff waiting for this thing to die
It failed on me after 10 months but WD gave me a new one.
8 February 2013
Summary: I mean yeah it's great. 7200 rpms, not loud at all. Only problem is it failed on me so I had to use my warranty to get a new one which WD provided free of charge. Luckily I didn't lose any important files.
Summary: Was excited to get this HD with 32 MB cache, etc. Plugged it in and it was not recognized. I have an i7 intel 16 Gb ram Win 7 Home So plugged it into an external case and put it on a different computer, it recognized it but would not format it. Put it back to my i7 and it would not find it again.
Summary: So far its been reliable, no failing. so its not a bad drive if all your going to do is surf the internet and write word docs maybe listen to music but anything more then that and you'll want to get a faster drive. i knocked off 2 eggs because of noise and speed.
Pros: 750GB pretty much it and it hasn't failed
Cons: SOOOOOO SLOWWWW, I kinda went over budget on my gaming rig and bought this because the price was reasonable and the size was good, should have save up and got a better drive because this one's transfer rates are terrible and its extremely noisy(not its going to fail noisy because so far its been ...
