Summary: Over the last 5 or so years I've went through 6 drives. 3 were replaced under warranty. WD sent out fast warranty replacments. In this respect they were excellent. However they send out "refurbed drives" under warranty claims. I have found some of these refurbed drives to have faults that obviously WD did not find themselves. Upon returning the refurbed drive i was sent a brand new warranty replacement.
Summary: Purchased two of these drives to go along 2 others that I have. Have to say the drives are nothing short of outstanding. Hand on heart I can honestly say the 2 that I currently have run on a P8P67 Pro on 6GBs sata ports in Raid 0 and they give my 2 x M4 SSD`s a run for their money, these drives really are that good! However, the poor stars is down to the p**s-poor packing amazon use on these delicate items.
Summary: I spent many many hours trying to get this drive to work with Intel RST - but couldnt. (Possibly not the drives fault) I also found that the drive I had was giving terrible performance figures. so I returned it.. And discovered that amazon had quietly pulled it from their shelves.. So it looks like it was a bad batch - or something.. If they had told me then at least I could have stopped banging my head against a wall. Not happy with WD quality assurance.
Summary: I have no idea how good this product is, as it was so poorly packaged I sent it straight back to amazon for a refund. It arrived in a squashed looking cardboard envelope, inside which the hd was wrapped in just a layer or two of bubble wrap( and under that I assume an anti static bag). You could clearly see there was just a couple of millimetres of padding at each corner, where the packaging was stretched.
Summary: I usually buy Samsung hard drives as they are very quiet & never go wrong. This time around, I wanted the SATA-III 6BG/s feature, so decided to buy two WD Caviar Black drives to run as a RAID 1 unit. I have no problem at all with the performance of the WD drives, but they are so noisy! I am always aware of the constant clicking of the heads as they read & write data. I can even hear them from about ten feet away.
