Summary: You should probalby pay the difference and buy the newer version because this version is really faulty; As you can see, I'm not the only one who had this problem and for fox sake DO BACK-UP! I lost 500 GB of data!
Pros: Good access time; nice HDD in general.
Cons: I knew it would happen! Within a month, I got an error message from Windows that my drive have to be remplaced or repaired. I also checked it with a HHD Health software and it's was in a critical condition. I tried to do a check disk with /f & /r but as soon as I restarted the computer, same mess...
Summary: Let me first say I buy only WD drives, none have ever died, and I am satisfied overall with this one. I bought this black drive because my WD green 750 GB drive was reaching capacity and seemed to lag with certain programs, but I haven't noticed any difference in performance over the green drive...
Pros: Large capacity for a reasonable price. Western Digital reliability.
Cons: Noisy, no noticeable improvement in performance.
Summary: I figured this top-of-the-line HD would be perfect, but for the price it's really not that special. Tons of space and decent speed, but as many other reviewers note - it makes lots of mechanical hard drive noises. Kinda annoying. Also doesn't seem super fast, just average.
Summary: I love WD drives and don't fault WD for the bad clusters. The drive was packaged poorly in a slit open bubble bag. Come on people learn to pack these things right!
Pros: Nice specs and all.
Cons: Turns out the drive has tons of bad clusters. Couldn't create a successful backup which prompted me to do a more invasive scan of the drive. Despite the killer I got on black Friday, it's not going to be such a great deal after all.
Cons: - LOUD. I have a folder of over 2000 photos in it, and the drive makes huge reading sounds when I try to access any portion of it that hasn't been accessed recently. My desktop is roughly chest level next to my desk, and I can hear it from 10 feet away
Summary: Buy something else. This isn't a bad drive, it's just way outdated and way overpriced.
Pros: WD drives always last long, that's not the issue.
Cons: The issue is that it's slow, noisy, hot, and overpriced. The newer WD1003FZEX is a way better choice since it uses the same fewer platter design that makes the WD10EZEX, a blue drive, a better buy than even this older Black drive.
