Reviews and Problems with Western Digital AV-GP WD30EURS

Failed after 2.5 years
11 December 2014
Summary: Worked flawlessly in a HTPC since 5/2012 working as strictly the DVR hard drive with a cable card. Failed with bad sectors in 12/2014. Ended up purchasing a red drive now. Not impressed with this product. I thought it would've lasted longer.
Summary: This drive did not mention that it was a green drive. I would not have purchased had I known it was a green drive. I am using this in a 16-channel DVR so reliability is worth the extra money. I don't have time to mess around with sending this back to get a non-green WD.
Good but nvidia chipset owners -it does not show 3tb unless you have this...

Summary: I am rewriting this review because I found a solution. So, if you are an owner of a slightly older PC (like me) from say 2006 or 7 and, you have a motherboard with the NVidia chipset you need at least version 15.58 of the driver - which as of this writing was not the one in the "latest drivers"...
Summary: The lack of inspection during shippment has cost me about two weeks of repair time. NewEgg saves on the pre shipment inspection and used ground rates for their RMA costs. Now, I am waiting for the lab to confirm that a HD with half the pins mangled is damaged. Am I the only one in a hurry?
Pros: A good value for more storage. Order was shipped on time as expected. One drive cloned nicely with no problems at all.
Cons: One Drive was DOA with an obvious hit to the connector pins prior to shipping. The Outer box was unmarked but the inner white box and bubble wrap showed signs of a hard hit that damaged a half dozen pins.
Summary: As with many others i ordered this HDD and the one i received was DOA. i went through Amazons great exchange process, had a replacement unit within 2 days that has been working wonderfully for almost a month now. This is a great price for a huge drive.
Summary: do some research into AV-GP, you will see that this device is built for constant reading/writing at the cost of data integrity. While great for surveillance recording, this is not the ideal drive for storing valuable media files and archives.
Summary: Unfortunately I had to return the product after two days, which meant I just managed to format and move my files, when write problems start to occur and the Western Digital disk check flagged too many errors to finish.
