The MK5061GSY drive is compatible with notebook PCs, gaming laptops, and mobile workstations as well as Energy Star® all-in-one and slimline desktop PCs. The unit couples power efficiency with other environmentally-conscious solutions including RoHS-compliance and utilization of components that reduce PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and BFRs (brominated flame retardants) as well as meet halogen-free standards. It comes with an optional free-fall sensor that responds to drop events and securely locks the recording heads in place off the media before system impact. This provides users with data protection and durability and is suitable for mobile applications.

The Toshiba MK5061GSY is available in a capacity of 500GB. It supports a serial ATA 3.0 Gb/seconds interface (Revision 2.6 (ATA-8)) and has up to 2 platters per disk. It also features up to 4 data heads, and has a transfer rate (to host of 3 GB/seconds. The unit has an optimum operation temperature of 5° to 55°C (41° to 131°F) and can operate under vibrating conditions of 9.8 m/s² (1.0G) 5 to 500 Hz. It is shock proof up to 3,185 m/s² (325G) 2ms and comes covered by a 3-year (from date of purchase) warranty.
