User Review

Michael M., Newegg
9 January 2012
  • Pros: It works
  • Cons: Drive is thicker than a standard laptop hard drive. Not clearly stated in specifications on page. Return policy on this item is exchange only. Be wary usually I love newegg but if it's not standard size it should be clearly stated. Will not fit in my dell laptop.

Laptop HD?

Scott B., Newegg
5 January 2012
  • Summary: Its not very often i get angry with Newegg, but when i do its usually for something cheesy like this.
  • Pros: Its' a TB and it might work.
  • Cons: This drive is over 12mm thick compared to others that are 9mm. It does not fit in the laptop i am repairing and they don't take refunds. I have been working on computers for years and never had this problem. I am now stuck with a laptop HD that doesn't fit a laptop.

Michael B., Newegg
5 November 2011
  • Summary: I bought this to upgrade my Compaq laptop but could not use it because of the drive height. Returned this drive to Newegg and had a difficult time getting a refund.
  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Does not fit Compaq Presario CQ61-420US. Does not fit Toshiba Satellite C655-S5235. Does not fit COOLMAX HD-250TN-U3 2.5" USB 3.0 External Enclosure. What does it fit?

Check the Drive thickness before you buy

Rajesh A., Newegg
7 March 2011
  • Summary: I bought this drive as secondary drive for Dell Latitude E6400. The drive thickness did not fit in to the secondary bay. Also notice when tested with exteranal connector the drive was very noisy.
  • Pros: I don't have any pros to list as I could not use it for below reasons.
  • Cons: This drive is very noisy.

I think it lasted almost 4 days...

Darrell H., Newegg
21 January 2011
  • Summary: I wish it had lasted more than 4 days.
  • Pros: 1TB, Price
  • Cons: 12 mm Form Factor might not fit every Laptop drive or External enclosure...but, hey, 12 mm is the future.

Bad.

Scott M., Newegg
18 January 2011
  • Summary: Keep in mind, if you buy this, its thicker than smaller capacity drives, make sure your laptop has room for it.
  • Pros: Cheap, large capacity
  • Cons: Since installing my machine has been plagued by odd issues. The biggest was repeated corruption of data files; particulary the search index. I tried two fresh installs. I tried all manner of drivers and settings and nothing made it any better. Eventually I did a fresh install on a different disk ...

Catastrophic Failure

Jeff D., Newegg
30 November 2010
  • Summary: It was a good deal for its price, but now having to pay for another brand at an additional cost removes any cost efficiency initially realized by this price/capacity/form factor combination.
  • Pros: 1TB capacity in a small form factor. Even at 12.5mm it still fit perfectly in a 13" Mac Book Pro. No issues with read/write speeds.
  • Cons: I ordered this on 10/22/2010 and on 11/28/2010 it failed. This puts it just beyond the 30-day warranty that Newegg provides by default. It's not Newegg's fault, but they should be aware of substandard products like this.

Incompatible form factor!

Juan J., Newegg
24 October 2010
  • Pros: N/A
  • Cons: This product is not a standard 2.5" form factor drive, it is about a third thicker than a standard 2.5" drive and will NOT fit in most computers or external enclosures designed for 2.5" drives. Newegg should CLEARLY warn customers of this.

Works in new 15'' MBP, BUT ...

Patricia M., Newegg
20 October 2010
  • Pros: Size and Advanced Format not an issue in new 15'' MBP, but ...
  • Cons: Is making a strange clicking sound when idle. I'm afraid I'm going to have to return it.
