Excerpt: I bought this drive as a cold spare for my Pegasus2 storage system. The price was very good for the capacity. Because it is a spare it will sit on my shelf and will be used only if there is a drive failure in my Pegasus2 unit.
Summary: The hard drive was manufactured in June of 2013, I purchased it in September 2013. This morning, I noticed it was not being detected by my PC. Turns out, it was no longer spinning up, seemingly unable to receive any kind of power. I'm currently looking for a replacement circuit board in the hopes that I can recover any of the data on the drive. Don't by Toshiba hard drives unless you like losing data. Stick with Western Digital or Seagate.
Summary: Ordered two of these HDD'S, one was DOA, one worked just wonderful. S*** happens, it can happen to any MFGR or End User. It was just my time in the pickle-barrel I suppose. the DOA was replaced with no problem but next time around I'll probably be purchasing Seagate for I've yet to get a bummer from them.
Summary: I have purchased 4 of these 2tb units over the last 6 months. All have been perfect. Single drive in Sandra gets 140-150MB/s, 10.1-11 Random Access Time RAID 0 2x drives in Sandra gets 298-303MB/s, 8.9-9.5 Random Access Time RAID 0 4x drives in Sandra gets 570MB/s-582MB/s, 6.12-6.7 Random Access Time (one time peak burst of 698MB/s @ 2% position) Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 Mother Board, 8 core CPU, 32 G RAM, AMD SB950 RAID controller (integrated), running Server2008 R2 VM in...
Summary: I understand these were originally produced for Hitachi but are now sold under the mfg (Toshiba) name. The last Hitachi I had lasted over 5 years with out a problem and is now a slave on another pc. No complaints but I bought the 2-year extended coverage just in case!
Summary: A very reliable performer. Added this drive to my desktop to act as a shared drive for my home network. The installation was standard plug and play in Win 7 Pro setup. This was great buy for me.
Summary: Neither unit was recognized in two different computer systems, and one of them made a rhythmic 'clicking' sound along with a LOUD hum when it was powered/spun up. I've used this model drive quite a bit and haven't had any problems in the past. Because of my past experiences with this unit, I figured I'd buy more. Thankfully I hadn't put any data on these drives. I'm not ready to give up on Toshiba yet, but hopefully this was just a bad batch.
