  • Summary: Great fast drive! Anything faster and you would need a SSD. I would RAID these drives. They also take a pretty good beating.

  • Summary: I ordered one of these for my rig as HDD storage in January and it has been working flawlessly. Saw it on sale for $79.99 this week(July 28) and decided to get another one. You can never have too much space.... Well, the second one arrived DOA. I was sold on Toshiba / Hitachi's reliability by the study I'd seen posted at The Tech Report here http://techreport.com/news/25940/hard-drive-reliability-study-names-names Toshiba owns Hitachi and the HDK line are the same...
  • Pros: Great and affordable. Reliable. Nice price (On sale for $79.99)
  • Cons: Second one was DOA

Very high failure rate/QA issues

Carl Bader, Amazon
24 July 2014
  • Summary: I think there are some serious QA issues with these drives. On the last shipment 3 out if 4 where DOA. Amazon replaced them fast. On the previous order 1 out of 4 had bad sectors out of the box. That's obviously a very high percentage. We have used WD up until this point without a single failed drive. Have about 30 of them. We switched for our new raids for price and compatibility. WD don't perform as well as these Toshiba in a raid environment.

Reliable, built well

William Bueno, Amazon
12 July 2014
  • Summary: Works very well - is NAS attached to the Airport Extreme by Apple. Does its job, had to reboot every couple weeks - but that could be the External Hard Drive enclosure's controller board / USB connection to your PC, and so on. Toshiba does a good job with these sorts of things, though...

Large Capacity at a Good Price

RP, B&H Photo
7 July 2014
  • Excerpt: I bought this drive as a cold spare for my Pegasus2 storage system. The price was very good for the capacity. Because it is a spare it will sit on my shelf and will be used only if there is a drive failure in my Pegasus2 unit.

NAS-saver

Tainitam, Amazon

  • Summary: Had a drive crash on my NAS. Because this was eligible for Amazon Prime, I had another drive in and running in two days. Months later, it's still running fine, and hopefully will be for a long time to come.

  • Summary: The Toshiba HDKPC09 2TB HDD is a great hard drive for the money and is fantastic for mass storage. While many people may argue saying that Toshiba hard drives are bad and of cheap quality, so far throughout my time with it, it has been performing great. It hasn't failed me at all and I haven't run into any problems with it, and I use it to store all my games. Overall, this is a great hard drive for the money and is quite fast.
  • Pros: Cheap - 2TB [Lots of storage!] - Reasonably fast
  • Cons: None that I've experienced

Works great as all previous Toshiba drives have for me

Robert B., Amazon
28 May 2014
  • Summary: I use these for external backup storage and go through one 2tb every 3 to 6 months. I have good luck with all name brand drives and since they are used for backup only and ocassional restore they are not under a lot of stress, although I have used a few in desktop workstations with excellent results as well.
