Cons: Ordered two drives. One stopped working correctly with less than 3 hrs run time. This is just enough time to install Win7 SP1 and to start the endless patches when it failed. Boot sector had problems. Ran SeaTools short self test and it failed. Tried to repartition the drive and reinstall Win 7 when it failed to even format.
Summary: Unfortunately, I waited more than 30 days before installing the drive, so I'm stuck using Seagate's RMA process. We'll see how that goes. . .
Pros: If it works out of the box, it works well. Good amount of storage for the price.
Cons: It may not work out of the box. I bought 3 of these drives through Newegg on 3 separate occasions - 2 retail and 1 bare drive. The last one I bought in October 2013, a retail drive, was DOA with bad sectors, confirmed by Seatools (had to use the DOS version because the Windows version froze while detecting drives under Windows 7 x64, apparently a known issue Seagate hasn't fixed).
Summary: -Has had a full freezes twice today, I'm assuming it is me trying to get to many things installed on my hard drive as fast as possible but, that shouldn't be the case with my rig.
Pros: -Price per GB is awesome. Cheapest 2TB i would trust on Newegg
Cons: - Did not come with Seagate Software. Was kinda bummed even though i read what the software was. I would have liked to have it for the future encase i decide to dual boot or more. Im taking off two eggs for this because its not correct to have someone forget something you are purchasing.
Summary: Also came with a 10 dollar Mail in Rebate offfer but this requires that i physically cut out the UPC code directly from the box (which voids both neweggs and the 2yr manufactures warranty) which i find a little dramatic considering there are a hundred and one other ways. Kind of disheartening to see what kind of tricks they play on you to get you shoot yourself in the foot..
Pros: wow this drive is FAST. almost 3x increase in benchmark scores in every category compared to my WD-BLACK 640gb. The moment i installed it i noticed my windows booted up at SSD speeds and i thought maybe it was because i had just installed windows 7 fresh.. But its been a solid month and everything i do is just super snappy.. When i load games i sit back in my chair and get ready for the usual loading screen but before i can even lean back the level is finished loading...
Cons: Definately not worth removing an egg over but although this drive is 100% silent during operation. It does however make a high pitch noise while parking the pin head.. But this only happens when you turn on your computer on and off so its really no big deal.
Pros: I have had Seagate Barracuda STBD2000101 2TB for only three weeks so I can't speak about reliability, but the performance is excellent. It runs quiet, Smart reports it runs quite cool, and fairly casual performance testing shows it is equal to or better than a three year old WD Black 640 GB Sata2 drive.
Cons: None, really. I paid 89 bucks in April 2013, not bad in today's market.
