Excerpt: I buy these 2 TB drives now and then as also I lost track of how many I have, as so I can replace the internal ones I do have as to begin the multi-swap around. that is, the ones I take out become external that may go into the enclosures, or be used as a spare or orphan drive that is not really assigned to any one of my PCs.
Excerpt: The hard drive was easy to install and my BIOS recognized it upon reboot. However the contents, as stated on the box indicate that "DiscWizard" software is contained therein. There is no software contained within the box. There is a trial version of the software that has to be downloaded from the Seagate website. The program took an hour to download and only after the download and subsequent running ot the software did I find out that it was only a trial version.
Summary: After a little more than a year of use as a back up drive the unit failed with with no prior warning. It was only after the drive failed that the OS gave the warning the drive could not be found. I hooked it up to an external test rig and the drive spun up without any unusual sounds however, there was absolutely no communication with the drive. After looking at the review history of this product one could conclude there is about a 10% failure rate with this model.
Summary: This Seagate Desktop HDD 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5" - Internal hard drive is an exact match for the original HD in my system. My system has front-panel accessible slip-in hard disk bays/caddies (but not hot-swapable) and this Seagate HD comes with their DiscWizard version of Acronis software's hard disk utility. I am able with DiscWizard and this hard drive to make an exact bootable clone of my primary system drive for backup purposes.
Summary: 4 bad drives in a row. I was thinking it had to be me. But I just got 2 New Seagate 2tb hdd from Frys and they are working fine. The drives I got from Amazon would never spin up and never showed up in bios. The same HDD from Frys using the same power and sata Cables worked. Why? I don't know. Maybe just bad luck.
Summary: My original equipment hard drive went out after only two years. This replacement is working well so far and I trust Seagate. Four stars means that all is well at the moment and I will update in the future regarding long term use.
