Summary: Like other reviewers, my drive completely failed in less than one year. I got an in-warranty replacement and that just suddenly died in the same manner. The frightening thing is that there is little to no warning. Sometimes you hear clicking noises with failing hard drives which should tell you to immediately replace the drive. None of that in this case. I'm done with Seagate drives as the quality and reliability is simply not there anymore.
Summary: I bought it at 2012 July, now it is 2014 July and it is dead. Just dead all of a sudden, all the data is gone, the drive is so hot when I told it out. I think there is a design issue with this product. All of you who own it, you better back up your stuff.
Summary: After developing thousands of seek errors and read errors, I decided to yank this out of my backup video raid set. I took the drive cover off to admire the internals and found smudge and mobile dust and debris particles on the surface of the top platter. It should be noted that the "warranty screw" under the mylar cover and the 2 side screws holding the cover on, were not very tight. I am wondering if it's a manufacturing issue with these...
good hard drive, but i had to return it because it got fried
11 May 2014
Summary: it normally works pretty well and connects everytime when i connect it, but one time it got fried and i lost all my data, fortunately it was during my one-year warranty and i just returned it for a new one, but had to pay shipping
Summary: I have owned and/ or specified probably a hundred Seagate drives of all stripes. I was flabbergasted to find this has a short, one-year warranty (unlike the drive inside which, if purchased separately would have a three-year warranty). It is rare that I have had to rely on warranty support for a Seagate, but have found them very easy to deal with. I am not used to having Seagate drives fail.
Summary: I bought this to use with Time Machine on my mac. The usb cable will not plug into a powered usb hub. I randomly goes offline and I haven't had the time to figure out if there is some firmware that I need to get to run it on the mac more accurately. The drive became corrupted and I've had to reformat twice now. I can't rely on it. Its now my third backup.
Summary: Working fine until the day I start hearing a beeping sound. The beep was coming from this HDD, and that means it is dead. Lost 3TB of valuable data wihtout any warning.. I have problems with Seagate products, and they seem to need to improve their quality.
