Reliable, hardy, great value.

SHARON M., Newegg
25 April 2014
  • Summary: Newegg always takes great care of its customers! I recommend Newegg and these external HDDs.
  • Pros: I own three of these. After well over a year, all three are still going strong. They are as fast as any other mechanical drives that I have ever owned. I find them to be very reliable.
  • Cons: Even with the USB 3.0 cord in a USB 3.0 jack, I do not get the advertised higher transfer rate. This could be my laptops, though. Right now one is transferring at 11.9 MB/second.

Enclosure and Drive both failed

James N., Newegg
1 December 2013
  • Summary: Purchased the 2TB model of this exact enclosure (same drive model/revision as well, aside from capacity)
  • Pros: Excellent performance when functional! Was a good price at the time as well.
  • Cons: Enclosure failed within the first half year of use. HDD also failed in an alternate enclosure before reaching a full year of use.

Fast and quiet

Gregg R., Newegg
30 January 2013
  • Pros: Does exactly what it needs to. If you use a USB3.0, I was getting up to 70-80 Mbps transfers, and USB2.0 20-30Mbps. It is very quiet, can't hear it at all. Good price for an external.
  • Cons: None

Faster, yet less reliable. Look for different brand.

10 December 2012
  • Summary: Well. I am a veteran of sorts when it comes to computer hardware, and what I can tell you is that I usually don't have a preference with my hardware brands, but I usually lean towards Western Digital or Intel solid-states.
  • Pros: Inexpensive, small-size, looks good, usually functions, faster than 2.0
  • Cons: USB connection to enclosure, short cable, heat output, Seagate brand, drive failure

User Review

Anonymous, Newegg
20 August 2012
  • Pros: It's a 1 TB drive and it doesn't require an external power supply. It is very small and portable. I've had it for a little over a month and it still running great.
  • Cons: None that I can think of. Could be bigger?

Piece of Junk

Thomas C., Newegg
18 July 2012
  • Pros: Cheap
  • Cons: Used it less than a dozen times before the drive completely failed. Extremely disappointing product. Also, the device is way bigger in size than the photo would suggest. Spend the extra money and get a WD drive.
