Space is the final frontier

R. Palmieri "Solar Engineer", Amazon
7 April 2010
  • Summary: My Ideapad S10 came with only 160 g of space, which rapidly filled. I chose 500 g because that's as big as they come, Seagate for the 15 years of good service they've given me, and 7200 rpm for the supposed speed advantage. In this application, I don't think that the extra speed (unnoticeable) is worth the extra noise (noticeable). I'd get a 5400 rpm drive if I were you.

My Big Fast Seagate Wedding

radiometric "radiometric", Amazon

  • Summary: My HP tx1000z had a 7200RPM drive to begin with, so I had no worries about decreasing battery life or heat, as some of you may have. That being said, having the larger cache and high density of a larger drive should make for some battery life improvement in my case. This drive is a tiny bit noisier than the old drive, but it is certainly not loud. I had no issues with firmware - it's the desktop Seagates one must avoid, it seems.

Reliable, marked increase in performance

Chester Li, Amazon

  • Summary: I replaced the original factory-installed Hitachi 5400rpm 320GB hard drive that came with my Macbook Pro (15" Unibody, Late 2008) with this one. A Quiet Fast Drive

Joebuyer, Amazon
19 December 2013
  • Summary: This was purchased to replace a similar drive in my Dell laptop, more space was required and this seemed a good choice. It came in excellent packaging and fitted quickly (as you would expect) to the laptop. It is quiet in operation and as fast as the old one, they are both 7200 rpm disks. Too early to say about reliability, but I have another Seagate which is a few years old and has proved to be a fast and quiet drive.

Good Drive

R. Perpete, Amazon
15 October 2013
  • Summary: Cheap, good build, and quiet. Fast access with good read and write speed. I bought it to replace a broken drive in my Acer Laptop, it went straight in with no problems and I was up and running again in no time at all. OS install went perfectly, found the drive straight away. I would recommend it.

truthful tee, Amazon

  • Summary: this hardrive is of good quality i have had it replace my 179 gb drive in my sony viao I have installed it but the only thing I didnt take in consideration is that it would take back the 179 gb of my original drive and the other 279 gb would show as a seperate drive( even though it is supposed to be 500 gb 41gb is for system settings or something like that so you only get 459gb)even still it is a bigger storage than my original 179gb so i was happy i would say though if...

*Nearly* a 5-star product

Log of Log "pog21", Amazon
12 January 2011
  • Summary: I got this drive to replace the 160GB drive in my macbook pro. Backup and installation were all fine. The drive fit in perfectly, screws tightened without any 'nastiness', laptop started up without any glitches. Performance is noticeably better. Program access times are faster and sites on my localhost seem to be pulled up quicker. The only downside is this drive is definitely noisier than the original Hitachi one that came in the laptop.
