Excellent Hard Drive

Harold Nigh, Amazon
6 February 2014
  • Summary: I purchased six of these drives for my QNAP NAS. The all worked fine out of the box and have been online for 6 weeks with no problems. They are expensive but I wanted something that was going last long term and i was very happy with the previous 2TB Enterprise drives I purchased.

No Problems Here

MH, Amazon
15 December 2013
  • Summary: First, the SMART data from different manufacturers are not all the same. To be certain the SMART data is read correctly use Seagate's software. Google for "Seagate" and "SMART" if you don't believe me. Whatever warning third party software is giving out could be just jibberish. WD and HGST also have their own diagnostic software and so do most of the other manufacturers. About the drive, mine hasn't had a single problem.

Works, but on rapid path towards failure

Laura S., Amazon
29 March 2013
  • Summary: Will the drive fail fast enough to qualify for return? I don't know. My disk diagnostics showed the drive as having only fair health rating, fair performance rating, and running on the hot side of what you want for long-term life. Now, a few days later, the drive's health and performance have dropped to fair. (By comparison, the Western Digital 4TB drive I bought at the same time is running like a champ, with healthy diagnostics all around.

Mislabled Drives / Inaccurate Reviews

Amazon Customer, Amazon
28 February 2013
  • Summary: One of the problems with Amazon's review process is that they lump many similar items together that should not be reviewed together. (i.e. Kindle books and first editions). In this case I was in search for the review on the 4TB ES drive and none of the reviews under this product, are for this product. Please be careful in what you purchase until Amazon starts monitoring this more closely.

  • Summary: Amazon has conflated two different Seagate Constellation hard drives in the description of this product. The title of this listing states: "Seagate Constellation ES 3 TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch Internal Bare Drive ST33000650NS" Seagate's 3TB ES3 has a 128MB cache with a sustained data rate of 175MB/s and uses the part number ST3000NM0033.

Very good quality and reliability

Kelsang Atisha, Amazon
10 March 2014
  • Summary: Very good drives, pretty much the best reliability and stability for the price. Although datacenter studies indicate that you may be better off just buying desktop-quality drives instead of enterprise if you are happy to replace them more often.
