Pros: worked well for about a year and a half. started to not be recognized by the bios occasionally. bad sectors in the front section of the drive, you know, where windows likes to write the MBR. Blue screen constantly on startup.
Cons: started to not be recognized by the bios occasionally. bad sectors in the front section of the drive, you know, where windows likes to write the MBR. Blue screen constantly on startup.
Summary: These are certified repaired drives, and I don't see that noted anywhere on the page. I knew they were OEM, but the refurbished status was something of a surprise considering that they're in line price-wise with fresh OEM drives.
Summary: I usually have great success with seagate drives so I was surprised when this one failed. From the reviews here it seems like it isn't a fluke. I am going to send it in for an RMA - hopefully I will get a replacement. Backups are a PITA but when stuff like this happens I am happy I have them!
Pros: Large capacity, low price, seagate name
Cons: failed after 7 months (boot disk failure on PC startup)
Summary: Goes to show that you MUST ALWAYS run manufacturer diagnostics on brand new drives -- you can NOT trust a new drive to be defect free! How would you like to know that the hundreds of Gigabytes of data you just put on your new drive are now inaccessible because the drive was already bad?
Pros: Cost per GB is very hard to beat. These drives work well and rather quiet... when they work! 2 of 4 powered on successfully and passed Seatools diagnostic long scan
Cons: 1 of 4 was DOA -- constantly clicking, never starting, never detected via BIOS. 1 of 4 was faulty during Seagate HDD diagnostics -- Seatools aborts at 99 errors, this happened before the first 1% of the drive scan-- you do run manufacturer diagnostics against your brand new drives, right?
Summary: I've have many of these in several servers in multiple datacenters. In fact this purchase was to replace a failed unit (or I'd pick something like a WD RAID Edition) and was shipped directly to the DC for hot-swapping.
Summary: We purchased a MAXTOR One Touch III Turbo RAID 1 unit as a backup device for our Mac. This box holds 2 ea. 750GB Barracudas. One of the drives failed just past the 1 year warranty date on the Maxtor box, which seems short lived for a drive with a 5 year warranty.
Summary: Good drive, but because of the loud read/write I will not be buying from Seagate again.
Pros: Very fast drive, good price, had no problems other than sound.
Cons: Loud as hell. This thing drives me insane when there is no music playing or other noise. I can't stand listening too it when any sort of read/write is occurring and it is the only thing in my computer that makes any noise.
Summary: This was purchased for an office. For some reason I cannot format the drive from windows, I need to use the seagate program I downloaded from seagates site. This doesn't make the drive a bad drive, I just do not feel as comfortable with it as I do others I have purchased that windows will format.
