Stay away from Seagate, in general, if you do not backup your data and this drive especially (very high failure rate)

Summary: All I can say about this is get a WD or Hitachi as a backup. Over the last four years I have gone through about five of these. Each one failed in the same way within 2 to 13 months: magnetic storage failure. Starts out fine with no bad sectors, but progressively becomes worse.
Summary: This product have been serving my need for over four years with out any problem I've had WD black which is also very reliable but I went with this because it's cheaper.. I'm sticking with seagate and wd only
Summary: Always thought Seagate was a good brand, maybe they had a bad run on their 500GB Barracuda OEM drives but I have had 3 of the 4 I bought fail with no warning between 9 and 15 months of use. I sleep the computer overnight and once a week turn them of and reboot.
Summary: Installed this drive to upgrade a 80GB HD on a relatives computer. In less than a week stated to get Hard Drive Failure is Imminent messages. Ran the Seagate diagostic software and the drive did not pass. Currently am waiting for a replacement drive from Seagate.
Summary: These are certified repaired drives, and I don't see that noted anywhere on the page. I knew they were OEM, but the refurbished status was something of a surprise considering that they're in line price-wise with fresh OEM drives.
Summary: WE have purchased dozens of these drives between 2009 and 2010. Over half have died. 36 out of 60. One hard drive to stay far far away. The 36 that "died" just bricked out. Bad firmware, etc. Its amazing how Seagate has yet to be sued for issuing so many dead drives.
