Pros: It has been a great reliable HDD - until now, BUT this drive was installed roughly 6 - 7 years ago. It had almost 39,000 operating hours on it when it finally failed. Bought another Seagate, although a ST2000DM001 this time. Hope it lasts as long as the one it's replacing.
Cons: S.M.A.R.T. monitoring did not warn me of an impending failure; although it is my fault for not knowing how to use the "smart" software. I didn't realize I needed a program to access the smart monitoring... thought it would pop up when something was going wrong... NOW I KNOW.
Summary: (This is for the 500GB version of this HD) I got me one of these used and would otherwise have no reason to complain. The drive is fast..has 32MB of cache and well, does everything a HD is supposed to do. However the seek noise, although faint and subtle drives me bonkers.
Summary: Had 8 of these in a server spinning 24/7 since May 2009 in a home file server. As of July 2013, they've been failing one after the other. Its a shame as I have a few 750GB models from an older server that are showing their age, but none have failed.
Summary: Purchased this drive to use as my recorded tv folder for my first HTPC build. So far everything is good and there are no issues with the drive. I have three of these units in my server and they have proven reliable as well.
Pros: Good brnad name. Drive working for a good time now with no issues.
Summary: Drive benchmarks around 125-130 mb/s read and write out of the box. Not bad, but this is strictly a backup drive for me so the size makes up for it. I have another Barracuda 1tb drive that benches at 180mb/s read and write that's my data drive.
Pros: Quiet Decent Speed Great space for the price
Summary: Someday I'll be able to get 1.5TB SSD drives for $70. That day is probably several years away, but when it comes I will look at this review and say "wow I can't believe I paid $70 for such little space on a platter disk". But here in 2012 (almost 2013), it's a great value for bulk storage.
Summary: I saw a lot of negative reviews and thought maybe I shouldn't buy it, but I did and am confident I made the right decision, it's a little sluggish but it's still an awesome drive for the price...
Pros: large capacity, um.. very large capacity for the price?
Summary: -I recently pulled this drive from my file server where it was runing 24/7 for almost 3 years, I noticed that it was showing a high relocated sectors, now seagate states that 100 sectors = bad drive, but I pull them asap bad sectors show up, it only had a 2 year warranty compared to the other...
Pros: -good drive not the best in speed for a 7200 RPM drive -ok noise level, can get loud when writing a lot of small files -24601 hour of use (1025 days) has 36 relocated sectors -Average temp is 34*C no fan 29*C with fan
Cons: -limited warranty, only 2 years vs 5 on other drives -sluggish for 7200 RPM Sata II drive -one egg
